Tuniq Tower or Thermalright Ultra-120A?

As per title, got some cash, can get a high-end cooler

Which would be best, I plan to use it with a Noctua fan

They both perform the same from what I've read. Worth bearing in mind is that the Ultra 120A will need a fan and the base on most have to be lapped, not sure about the TT. I went for the TRU as I've always used a TR HSF and I got it second user from the MM for I think 17 notes

I lapped my tunic but it was pretty damm flat to begin with. I think tunic is generally easy to install as well. Some people argue however that the 120A has the edge on cooling.

The Extreme version may but the standard 120A and TT are around the same with maybe the TT edging ahead?

Yeah, i choose the TT as my skills are seriously rusty and i figured that there might only be a couple of degrees gained (at best) by choosing the 120.

TRUE will probably edge it depending upon the fan you pick but that increases the cost a bit more, plus most people say you are more likely to need to lap the TRUE over the TT. Another one to look at might be the Noctua which also comes with a fan which is uber quiet.

I already have a fan, and just want a cooler that bolts onto the mobo, my fingers hurt from push pins, lol.

I'll be using a Noctua fan, so I guess it boils down to whichever I can get the cheapest then, cheers

Well i've just installed a TT with my Q6600, i'm getting temps of about 30/30/25/25 for the 4 cores at idle. Haven't had time for prime or othos tests as yet. But i'm happy with the idle temps for now.

It was much easier to install than I thought and feels very secure on the motherboard where my old Scythe Ninja never felt particularly robust - i think mainly because it was push pin rather than bolted on.

Just my 2p, I would recommend the TT to anyone, provided it will fit your case!
