Hi

I watched Children of Men last nite. All in all I think it was a fairly decent film. Acting was ok, but what really stole it for me was the filming. Theres one bit when there running through the refuge camp where as far as I can tell its about a 4 or 5 min action sequence without a single cut, filmed entirely by one chase camera man...

But my experience was a little tainted by the fact I kept thinking "wow, this looks just like the HL2 universe... just without aliens"

Did anyone else think this? Its all the cages and people being hurded around by police, and put into city sized refugee camps, and the loudspeaker chatting away all over the place. Going out into the country and being attached by rebels, etc etc. I really think that if you replaced the police with combine then the Britain portrayed in Children of Men could definatly be a very good depiction of what the HL2 world could be like in real life...

HL2 was 2004 and Children of Men was 2006, so they could have taken some inspiration..

It's more likely that they (like many many other productions) are inspired by George Orwell's 1984.

Equilibrium fits the bill too.

I know what you meann about Equilibrium, but there were just points in CoM where I could just imagine Gordon Freeman and Alyx running round the corner and moving down the combine, i mean police...

Watched a film called "The Mist" Recently and i was very suprised by it.... The ending was very Half Life mixed With Silent Hill ;)

totally agree. started like a pants b movie but probably one of the darkest endings I 've seen in ages.

really good film

I hope they recast it and change the story line and stop relying on computers to make the long shoots look good!

Even if you think the CGI was poor or the cast was poor, the atmophered that was created was very very good. If the TV series keeps this, it will be a success.

Amazing film, one of the best films of 2006.

It makes you appreciate how good HL2 really is.

Don't see what was wrong with the CGI, from what I remember it was very subtle and it was well done.

Definitely reminded me of HL2!
I didn't notice any CGI though.. except at the end (the ship?)

Lots of critics praised that one "continuous" shot section where he's trying to get the woman and baby back and I was just thinking - yeah but it looks just like an fps. Which was a good thing of course, but the critics never mentioned the game connection.

Great film - incidentally the continuous shot wasn't actually shot in one go, it's about 4 separate bits put together.

Funnily enough I randomly watched it again last night.... I agree with you. It was so Half Life 2. I swear they took inspiration. But yeah, I adore the cinematography in this.

Pull my finger.

Yeah theres a couple of bits where it looks as though they could have cut it (screen goes black or white when looking into a dark or light place) but the blood splatter is on the camera for a good 2 or so mins at one point. Did it actually get any awards for Cinematography?
