I NEED a diesel!!!

For that sort of mileage I would seriously consider putting a vegatable oil conversion kit on your diesel. I have seen prices start from £599 and with veg oil (rapeseed oil) currently available from 56p a litre if you look in the right places, you would save a fortune.

What he said, know a guy who has done this to his citroen xzara estate and he saves a fortune.

I'd reorganise your life somehow so you don't have to drive 40k! Sounds like a nightmare. Get job in Yorkshire - even a £10k pay cut would be well worth it.

What was wrong with the ZT?

Compared to the opposition, imo, plenty.

Crappy build quality, poor reliability (from the experience of a family member) and above all, they look to me like something that has fallen (badly) out of a Ripspeed catalogue (silly metal exhaust surround for example)

£5 - 6k which the OP has as a budget will buy him something far better all round, and, without certain parts supply issues.

Hey, its only my Rover hating biased opinion mind you! - and if you'd ever spent any time @ Rover factorys you'd have a unique insight into my hatred of the marque - Going to Rover @ Longbridge compared to Toyota @ Derby was almost like beaming to a different planet.

Shame but true.

Poor reliability? That'll be the BMW engine, right?

No mate. I'm referring to the one that was in my family, which was a 1.8 petrol iirc, it had warm start issues - it would not start when warm! :D

BMW did the diesel variant did they not? - either way, a good engine does not make a car.

The ZT is in a completely different league from the other usual rover pox and the 75 that it was based on got good reviews. Mark moved his budget down made me suggest it!

More like 80p a litre at current prices. Not worth it until they drop.
