New family/company car needed 8K budget

I can see the Mondeo is a highly regarded car on here but what is it that makes it so special?
I have always fancied the ST TDCI myself(quite like the looks and the fuel consumption) but always been put off by the depreciation and the "common" ford badge.
However saying that looking on autotrader they still demand a premium price tag

great value for money
cheap to fix (even though petrol manuals rarley break)
great to drive, still pretty chuckable
cheap insurance
comfy enough
well equipped
better then vectra, better value and nicer drive then passat

Mondeo's aren't as rare as hens teeth, so I'm sure you'll see another soon enough!
I'll get the funds ready firstly I think then start looking again

Just a thought- I was in a similar situation and opted for the company car over the allowance.
Depending on how many miles you do it may be more economical to take the company/lease car due to servicing, insurance, road tax and depreciation.
I do a fair few miles and just wanted the peace of mind that for much less than a lease or loan repayments I would never ever have to worry about the car.

Already suggested and rejected.
People say this and I wish it was true, becuase I'd love to buy something like an ST with 'serious miles' on it for nowt. Unfortunately it never seems to happen, they still cost thousands
Don't be taken in to the misconception about how much a diesel will save you, often it won't. You pay more for the car, and then often have to do over 20k to make the fuel difference. Unless you just like the fact of popping down to the fuel court once a week. 
You could get a new Petrol with lower miles for the same price and save yourself some money.
