Right im needing to build a circuit.

Basically im fitting central locking to my car, the central locking however doesnt have the output to show it has been activated.

I dont want to touch my indicator/hazard circuit as it is too complex and overloaded as is, however my fog lights are all few via one wire so simpler to do.

The actuators for the locking recieve a 12v pulse, and i have a spare actuator wire to give the lights a 12v pulse, however this isnt enough to light the lights for long.

So what i want to build is a circuit that will recieve a pulse and convert that into a 5sec blast of 12v to my fog light wire.

anyone any good at this stuff?

Can't you just use a time delay relay activated by the 12v pulse?

Something like this, but with a quicker timeout.

what car are you fitting it to?
does it have central locking at the moment?

nope it doesnt its a 1980 triumph spitfire, so everything has to be custom.

interesting thought volosapian, im wandering if i could combine both the relays, have a ten sec relay feeding a 5 sec intemitant relay hence having the lights flash twice.

Right, if you want a definite 5 seconds of pulse then you can make a 555 monostable timer circuit. This is what it looks like and I'd solder it up on stripboard. It'll all run happily on 12V. The transistor needs to be a 2N3055 and the output from the transistor is used to actuate the relay on your foglights. Basically you trigger it with the output from the central locking.

Alternatively the lock solenoids probably latch on for a few seconds so you could just run a wire from one of them to your fog light relay and it will have a similar effect but you'll have less control over the time.

Mattius,

What about this

Says Pulse time adjustable between 0.5 and 5s
Pause time adjustable between 2.5 and 60s

Q) Can this equipment be used to make a buzzer sound for about 5 seconds when activated then cut out once that time has elapsed? - Steve
A) Could be used for that purpose (buzzer etc would be required)

Sigh, the site name is starred out, must be a competitor...

do a search for dei 528t pulse timer. it will do what you want.

not sure why you dont just buy a remote cdl kit with indicator outputs though. it would be much easier and give you lock/unlock confirmation. You could wire the outputs to pretty much any light circuit you want.
