Died peacefully at his home with his wife of 44 years beside him. Sad news indeed, the guy was one of the true greats of acting, ailing from the golden age.

Also a staunch supporter of the right to bear arms, and the President of the NRA. A post that ill-health sadly forced him to quit.

Is this the NRA guy who hosted a pro gun rally 1 day after the columbine massacre?

If not, R.I.P, if yes, R.I.P, bit of a ****** to do that though.

Only if you're stupid enough to believe michael moore that the right to bear arms caused the columbine tragedy does this matter...

It's also nice to see the friendlyness shows by some towards those who don't share their views...

So you're saying that the massacre didn't have anything to do with the fact that owning a gun is actually legal? :s (Trying not to derail, just curious).

Given that those committing the massacre didn't legally obtain the guns (stealling someone elses guns or getting someone who is legally allowed to buy guns to get them on your behalf are both illegal), nor the homemade bombs they took in with them, I would say it didn't. Legalised guns did not cause the columbine massacre, screwed up kids did, the guns were just part of the tool.

It's like blaming a car because someone drove it into a crowd of people, but for some reason people see the word gun and lose all rational thought in a south park style rabble...

It's still a free country, Dolph. The facists haven't taken over yet.

And until they do, I have carte blanche to show respect or disrespect to whoever the **** I want.

I liked Heston as a movie star. But when he became a political activist for the NRA, he lost all credibility in my eyes.

True, but disarming the population does makes it easier, you'll get to take over soon ;)

You do, but I also have the right to criticise it as cheap, unpleasant and not appropriate on the day a person (any person) dies to have a pop at them because you (or anyone else) dislike their views.

You're first in line when the shooting starts. You know that, don't you Dolph? ;)

BTW, a population can only be described as "disarmed" if they were fully armed in the first place and subsequently deprived of their weapons by legal or illegal means. This is not the case in your country (UK) or my own (Australia).

Sure, go right ahead. :)

:rolleyes:Wot a ****** YOU are
Hope his family are not reading this(unlikely)
p.s.Hope to dance on your grave....SOON

Jeez, I think you need to go to the same steaming ****-pile as Mr. Heston.

Edit: You're 44, so it's likely that I'll be dancing on your grave, you miserable old fart.

Actually, if you go back far enough there certainly is. Restrictions only really started in 1903.

sad.... but for those who dont know what some are talking about here, here is the link with the massacre.(in which 12 died and 23 were injured)

"At the end of the film Moore decided to have an interview with NRA president Charlton Heston. little while after the Littleton incident, Heston arrived at an annual NRA meeting in nearby Denver, although having been asked to stay away by the mayor and other leaders. Moore describes himself as an NRA member. He questions him about the NRA's presence. After answering questions, Heston walks away from the interview while the cameras are still filming. Moore leaves a photograph of the six year-old school shooting victim Kayla Rolland in Heston's house when he disappears. Earlier in the film he spends time investigating the possibilities of her death, in particular the long hours that the mother of the 6 year-old who used the gun was forced to work under a welfare to work program."

imho, he was a fool to ignore the wishes of the local people and stay away.. shame a great old school actor gets remembered for one stupid act, but you reap what you sow in this life. When someones mentions his name, it's the first thing I think of, not his acting....

We shouldn't really turn this in to a Heston/Moore debate. Moore has cleverly edited his documentaries to give bias and leave out critical facts. Heston was insensitive and power hungry.

no one is perfect, so instead of arguing about it, lets just revel in the fact that we have 1 down, 1 to go :)

I'll shoot anyone who's ahead of me. :D

Nevertheless, the populace was not universally "armed", and was not "disarmed" by the government. There was no confiscation of firearms, or forcible disarmament. And despite the absence of an armed populace, the government has somehow resisted the allegedly inexorable decline into the hardcore "fist of iron" dictatorship that the gun nuts are always screaming about.
