Sony Xperia X1

It isn't all about megapixels :/

And if you're so bothered buy a proper camera?

Convenience, price, etc etc.

Its going to be a premium phone people want premium features.

People, as a whole want everything, but dont want to pay for it.

The X1, with a 5 megapixel CCD, xenon flash, however many gig is the vogue storage, and all the other gubbins people want would all of a sudden become a £750 phone rather than a £400 one, while not offering £350 more "betterness"
But you have to try and get it across.

Well, I'm not too bothered, but I did notice a difference between my 3.2mp and 5mp cameras.
It's not a massive issue, but it just seems strange having an all singing all dancing new phone but still use a 3.2mp camera which they've had on their phones for some time.
But thats probably more due to better optics than the amount of megapixels really...

Im pretty sure they havent done a 5MP camera in any of their previous models - and Im talking about HTC rather than Sony here since they are manufacturing the unit, which is all important...

More I read it about it, the more it looks like a plain HTC model built for a Sony rebrand - definitely not a bad thing, but in all honesty the X1 could have been a whole lot more - it wont stop me buying it, but it is a shame...

Depends on the demographic.

Nokias' N95, E90, E61i, and 9300. Sony Ericssons' W950, P1, M600, and K850. Blackberrys' 8320 and 8820. These are all 'premium' phones, but are aimed at different people which is reflected in their specifications. A photographer probably wont want the corporate email and WiFi of a Blackberry but will want the 5MP camera of the K850.

A 5MP camera and a xenon flash is hardly going to add £350, be realistic. £50 tops!

Yes, I made that point in the post, thanks!
You cant have everything in the same phone, without losing out on major things like battery life, and price.
Hence why manufacturers dont do it.

Aghh just realised that this phone doesn't seem to have an in-built dedicated GPS received a la TyTn II... it's purely that A-GPS triangulated crud. Very dissappointing! :(

Hmm I hope you're right... I just couldn't find to find much concrete info that it had a dedicated internal GPS receiver in it and has a suspicion the agps may have just been triangulation technology like the iPhone has. I hope i'm mistaken!

Yes A-GPS is a feature a lot of smartphones with GPS chips already are coming out with. So it will be a proper reciever using network triangulation to pick you up faster

I have an N82 and that has A-GPS so i'm not ignorant as to the feature... as I said I was just worried that it was the triangulation crud. If not, great. :)

Another first impression here.

Looks like a stonking phone probably with a stonking price to go without lol. Hmmm i think this will replace my n95 8gb...dont think im going to go for the iphone 3G version now with this being released sometime in the future.

Weighing up the same decision myself...

Amazingly leaning towards the 3G iphone since Ive had a few WM* phones and like a change/downgrade to something more simpler - depends how used to push email I get...
