Ok stupid question of the day - where has the XP file search gone in Vista? I mean the one where you could search specified drives or folders for files of a given size, date etc?

I'm sure it's there but I just can't seem to see it atm - I know I'm going to kick myself when I find it :(

I was having the same problem when i was trying to find some files some time ago, i was almost going to kill my pc at that time, still have no idea how to use search in vista.

Bit of a long winded way, I'm pretty sure there's a shortcut somewhere...

Open 'My Computer' > Ctrl+F > Advanced Search

[Edit]
As of SP1 the 'Search' link on the start menu has been removed which took you to the same window as above :(

Press start button, type in what you want, press enter. ;)

See that lovely textbox on the start menu, that's a wonderful tool. :)

Also F3 should bring up a search window.

Ah yes, forgot about that shortcut. Make sure your desktop is selected though.

Desktop or a folder, like My Computer will do fine. :)

Haha, didn't see he wanted advanced search...read the first part and ignored the rest of the OP.

I would fiddle and find an easy way...but I don't currently have Vista installed. :p

The search link on the start menu has officially been removed by Microsoft because of the ability to change search providers (you can use something like the Google Desktop search to replace the built in MS one)

Not sure why that's a reason to remove the link, but that's the one I found out.

You could make a shortcut to it and pin it to the start menu:

Open the search window (F3 from desktop or another explorer window), drag the little magnifying glass at the top left (left hand side of address bar) onto the desktop.

You could then drag that shortcut onto the start menu orb to pin it.

Here is how you do it... press CTRL+F or F3 on any Explorer window and the following screen appears. Click the Advanced Search drop-down in the top right. Then set your search parameters. Be sure to tick the box which includes non-indexed locations in the search.
