How to get a job in Singapore/Thailand/etc

What are you currently doing now? You might be able to try and find a work placement through that. When I had a job a few years ago they were looking at expanding in to China and were after people to work there, now I am at uni and they have a scheme to get people work placements for a year in China (which I am applying to). If you currently have a job or are at uni, then you might be able to find a job that way which would be a bit easier.

I worked as an IT contractor in Thailand in 96 but since the currency collapses in Asia in 98 working in Asia has become harder. You can get work as an English teacher but don't expect much money for it. Working in a professional capacity is tricky without the language of the country.
Best way is to look in Singapore and HK, then hope to branch out from there.
TEFL is really not much of a career. Good fun for a while and amazing experience but not something to build a career round. Unless of course, you want to live in Asia like a native with relatively low expectations. I've considered it as a retirement option but then I'm already ancient and already have the native wife, house and kids

my expectations consist in having a bed to sleep in and enough money for food. Everything else after that is a bonus you reckon thats low or high? When you say TEFL isnt really good as a career what do you base it on? Im not "high maintenance" i can quite happily get by on minimum income as long as the work is rewarding....

Yea my aunty/uncle work in Thailand they were on Phi Phi had to move though as the whole island was a mess after the tsunami there working in Phuket now I’ve being over 4 times and its great 
I bet its quite hard to find a job as a scuba diver thb as everyone is a pro out there and its full of them, they have being living there 15yrs and found it difficult to find a job on phuket.
I know I would love to work over there as everything is mega cheap!

You're happy to do it now but for how long? Suppose you live and work in Thailand as a TEFL. If you're prepared to live in a wooden house without AC and live Thai food from cheap restaurants (hardly anyone actually cooks for themselves!) you will be able to live comfortably. But if you want a car and Internet access from home and to have holidays, to fly home from time to time? Where is this money going to come from?
seems best way is to get an internal transfer
i'll probably take a holiday around that region and look for jobs while im out there too

im in South Korea .... they are desperate for teachers here .... its good if you can get into a decent school .... I been here for like 5 months and its pretty cool. In korea they pay for your rent and the bills are cheap (my last elec bill was a tenner for the month.) your still paid around a grand a month. Tax is only 3 - 5%, if you can put up with being stared at like a freak and little kids its cool. They are NOTHING like british children, thank god.
Also you only need a degree to get your visa, you dont need a teaching qualification.
With Thailand you wont get paid as much for teaching though .... another good place to check out is Taiwan .....

Exactly. Thailand is super cheap if you're visiting from the UK. But when you're earning in baht, suddenly you're not living the high-life anymore!

I lived in China for a year. I basically just applied for a teaching job Online, had a phone interview and was told I'm accepted. So I flew out there, met them, got free accommodation with my contract, etc and about £400 per month. It isn't much, but considering I had free accommodation it was more than enough.
You have to be careful though, as some of them are a scam. You really need to research the whole visa thing, and always ask them via email, for the email address of any current foreign teachers at the school. Most will be happy to do so.
Some will want you to share accommodation, some better pay, etc. You really need to just look at jobs offers and join forums in order to get a good understanding of what to expect and how to go about certain things. The language barrier can be annoying if you're not prepared to learn.
In China, they always ask for a photo with your email application. It's totally normal, and it's normal to see 'Female teachers only'.
I have light hair, bright blue eyes and some freckles, so they wanted me bad.
