I want to replace the stock fan on my 1900xtx as it's really loud. I read a few people recommended the Accelero, is this a good cooler for my card? Also do I need to buy anything additional like paste, cleaner, tape for the job? I assume its a case of take off the stock cooler, clean anything thats there, apply new paste/tape (whats the difference?) and fit the new cooler.

The paste comes pre-applied with the S1 so all you need to do is to clean off the core and apply the supplied pads on the vram then it's just a matter of fitting it.

It's very silent but it only cools slightly better than the stock cooler.

Only slightly better?

My x1900xt idles at 31C & loads at 43C with the S1, with stock cooler it was 45/70.

To the OP, buy some akasa thermal tape for the ram sinks, you'll be sorry if you don't. The tape they have on the ram sink are terrible.
Other than that the S1 is an excellent cooler.

OOPS was thinking about the X2 for some reason!

Yeah the S1 is great, I'm using it with my 8800GT it's miles better than stock :p

You won't need the thermal tape though just make sure your vram is squeaky clean otherwise the ram sinks won't stick as well.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, will buy an S1, some cleaner and some tape. Argh, just noticed the S1 is out of stock! Oh well will have to wait. I don't mind about temps so much as I won't be overclocking, I just want something that doesn't sound like there is a helo above my house when I play graphics heavy games (I can hear the 1900 fan over my headphones!).

I cleaned my ram (8800gts g92 - msi oc version) with Arcticlean 1 & 2 - (three times). The ram sinks were pressed and held for 30 seconds. They've stuck like flies on ####.

Peak temps now ~65c before accelero it was idle ~60c and load 85c
