Basically looking for something like a 4/5dr automatic. Similar to VW Polo, perhaps smaller if possible.

We have around 3000 quid, but we maybe able to stretch it a little bit further.
Any suggestions please :) ?

I hear nissan micra auto's are ok. But tbh autos are generally crap unless you have a big engine (< 2litre auto wont be very good) and gearbox faults cost a bomb.
Imo german cars are overpriced.
You should get a nice 1.25 fiesta for 3k. Does it HAVE to be auto??

so that she can handle it better than a bigger saloon :)

Sounds a bit like shes a dopey driver and going to prang it. Get a 10 year old nissan micra auto for 1k-1.5k???

Hope this helps:)

EDIT: sorry I edited my post after you posted the one below me:p

Engine size is not a concern. Infact smaller is better.

As I say... looking to spend around 3 grand, so please post your recommendations :)

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/439943.htm then imo.

I have a manual micra like that and as much as it is an mums/granny car it is reliable and is a good car. I often see rust free micras on the road as old as Creg.
The model in the link is the final facelift bubble shape with an uprated engine. They are all 16v twin cam engines so it is a good engine for its size considering they came out in '93. There are plenty of 5 door models about as well. I just heard micra autos are a little better than the rest. I wouldnt bother with anything saxo-ish.

Hmm thats not bad actually.
Wouldve been good if it were 4/5dr, but I dont think Micras come in that flavour?

Too troo about the Saxo though! My wife has one and its giving me a right headache!

Is this pistonheads website decent then I take it?

i love the motors forum's recommendations. even if they are somewhat predictable, they never cease to be funny.

"i need a small car"
"get a mondeo"

small autos are generally pap, perhaps it's worth test driving a few small autos, to see if that's really what she wants.

Well she has a kid as well in the back.

It wasn't aimed at you mate, soz if it came acroos that way. As Ben M has said though, see if you can get her down the local stealerships to test drive a few cars and find something she likes, then if possible, get the same sort of car private and save a few quid...

Lol no probs matey... I just pressed quote instead of "Post reply" so my reply wasnt aimed at you specifically.. just wanted to give more info ;)

Yea what you said is probably the way to go...

But please feel free to post any further recommendations or advice!

What about a fairly late, low mileage Punto. Looks chic for the girls, comes in 1.2 flavour and is surprisingly spacious.
