2008 Bahrain GP - Race 3/18

HAHA! Classic Pat Symmonds!

When asked about the view of some experts in the paddock who believed it could have been a brake test, Symonds said: "Well, they are not as expert as they think then. We have the data and there is nothing untoward there. You don't need to be an expert to see that."

In the eyes of Brundle and Allen, Hamilton can do no wrong.
Which is why I dont like their commentating. Very biassed and very one sided.

Mark Blundel on the other hand... I like his comments and views... even though he also sided with Brundle and Allen on this issue, I know his thoughts stem from an unbiassed opinion.

I do hope this season turns out to be another 3 or maybe 4 way fight for the title. It makes it so much more fun. And just sucks 3 weeks to the next racing, oh well...

Funny, I've always thought Brundle had a Ferrari bias.

Apparently the Renault car is just really really **** :D By Renault's seemingly own admission in this case!
At the end of the day without TC, no doubt a few are waiting until they are fully straight before applying full throttle and are especially wary on the first corner/lap.

No doubt Hamilton has a lot more confidence in his car, since its always the way that a good setup/car just works without effort, while a bad setup just makes you overwork the car...

Considering how good Renaults launch control and therefore TC was in the last few years, no doubt Alonso was just being wary and ensuring hes still in the race after the first lap...

Bah.. not a good day..

Hamilton had a rubbish start and his car just wasnt the same after it was tainted by Alonso.

Good job by Massa though, always nice to see the supposedly under performer come through.

Damn the massive wait now.. roll on more races!

Lewis Hamilton make a mistake and then show no ability to come through the pack?

Nah never happened.

His car did look a handful, whether it was heavy on fuel, bad setup or damage it didn't look straight forward. He couldn't even get passed some of the back of the field cars. Compare that to last year in Brazil when he passing them at one a lap.

You mean, after Hamilton blatantly crashed straight into the back of Alonso? Sometimes, I feel that Hamilton is a little too aggressive. Its almost as if he believes that he can win the race in the first few laps. He did the same thing last year (was it China?) when he tried to overtake Alonso and ended up going off the track. Alonso seems to drive a lot more carefully.

Massa, lead from the start and so completed the race with no problems, in first place. This is the sort of thing he excells at. We have seen this numerous times during the last year. His problem comes when he isnt leading - who knows what the hell goes on in his head. He has the ability and car to get an easy 2nd (usually behind Kimi), if he cant lead the race. I think he just gets a little reckless and frustrated when he isnt leading.

I think Massa's best strategy would be to take the pole, even if it means an extremely light fuel load. This will give him a good chance to lead the race into the first corner. At this point, he can then take his chances during the race and hold any faster cars behind him.

He did it at brazil last year
Alonso overtook him on the 1st lap, so at the end of the first small straight he tried to overtake him, went in too deep and went off the track on to the run off.

I dont know if its been mentioned here already since I havnt read the whole thread but I have to say I'm really disappointed in both Nakajima and Sato. I cringed every time the leaders came to lap them as they just didnt seem to get out of the way at all. Do they just not look in their mirrors as often or are they just arrogant? I know Martin Brundle said that they cant just jump out of the way every time a car comes up behind them, but surely they both held up a few drivers not only in this race but in others too. Credit due to Hamilton though, giving the Ferrari's plenty of room when they came to lap him, probably the only bit of good driving he did today mind.
My driver of the day? Has to be Massa, perfect start and managed his lead well.
Biggest disappointment? Jensen.. would have loved to see him battle with Alonso, and maybe even see him fighting Webber at the tail end of the points.

I honestly think its a 'mental control' issue - when hes at the front he can effectively dictate the pace and ensure (that if his pitstops are normal) his win. When hes chasing I think he just feels out of control trying to play catch-up and just over-works the car and then the small mistakes appear, until he either drops the car or basically gives up - just hasnt got that mental toughness.

He can quite easily eek out a lead, but very rarely claws one back...

Massa I feel doesnt have the mindset to be a champion - hes a fast racer but I cant see any difference between him and Barrichello and he was squarely Ferraris number 2 and got a few decent wins but never challenged Schumacher...

I was surprised Williams went with Nakajima in the first place. They culd have had quite a few young promising talents in that car. Nakajima would be 4th or 5th on that list IMO.

Rubens was hardly allowed to challenge MS on enough occasions. Plus he IS a good racer, battles hard and fair. Plus he managed to get those 2nd places when Massa bottles it too much.

LOL but he is also very easilly flustered, look at his gesticulation towards Glock when all Glock was doing was covering his position

He did make himself look very silly.

I think it could be due to Williams being powered by Toyota, so they were forced to have a Japanse driver in the team. This is a guess though.
