Hi there,

Im pretty much ready to buy a new TV. Im after a full 1080p LCD HD for my bedroom. 37" is prefect, anything larger will be a little too big as I will be sitting about 9ft from it. Has to be wall mountable.

Ive been looking at the Toshiba 37XV505 which looks like to have good specs and well priced too.

Anyone got one of these or can suggest anything else?

Thanks :)

Hi there,

Ive been looking at the Toshiba 37XV505 which looks like to have good specs and well priced too.

I've ordered the 37XV503 which has the same specs as the 505 but a different coloured stand for just over £550 It isn't released until 18 Apr or thereabouts but for the price I just had to go for it.

Although to answer your question..no I don't have a clue how good it is, looks awesome on paper:D

Don't get hung up on needing 1080p if you are going for 37", go for the best tv in your price range regardless of whether it is 1080p or 720p. At 9ft viewing distance you would need a 50" screen to notice a difference between 720p and 1080p, neither a 37" or 42" are big enough.

With a contrast ratio of 18000:1 it is potentially one of the better sets for the price, just got my fingers crossed really.

I'm also using it as a PC monitor :)

If you can wait, I'll put my views up here when I get it (second half of April)

Looks like a great tv, very good price for the spec, I was looking at the 42" version but will wait until some user reviews surface.
You caould always order it then send it back if its no good.

I shall be using it as a pc screen sometimes too, so I think I shall stick with full HD.

More and more I look at it, I want it. I think its the TV for me. Just got to wait till I get all the cash now :(

Will you still be watching it from 9ft away when using it as a PC screen though?

1080p at 37" from 9ft away is pointless as your eyes aren't capable of resolving the extra resolution over 720p.

However 1920 x 1080 is a standard PC resolution so by the time you take into account and resizing and technical jiggery pokery through setting your res to 1360 x 768 and sit 4-5ft away for gaming I think you'll see the difference.

Of course you'll also need to consider the performance hit at a high resolution.

1920x1080 is however much easier to set on the PC, I think it's to do with being multiples of 4 or something.
