Temps for BFG 8800 GTX OC2 50*C idle - better cooler needed??

Hi,

I am currently getting a idle temp of 51*C (GPU-Z) with a single card, and am getting another one on Tuesday. I am guessing that with the addition of another card, my case temps will increase, and thus the temps for my CPU, GPU1 and GPU2 will too.

I have got a Zalman CNPS9700 for my CPU, but my graphics card currently has the stock cooler which doesn't appear to be that efficient at cooling... It just seems to be heating my case!

Therefore with my current temps, and the estimated increase in temps once I have installed the second card, should I get a better cooler for the graphics cards, or is it not that necessary??

I have looked at the "Thermalright HR-03-PLUS (8800 GTX) VGA Cooler" and this seems to be the best one for my card, but am afraid that it won't fit in my case, especially with 2 of them. (I also need room for my X-Fi card in one of the PCI slots.)

Thanks.

50c is sweet at idle for a GTX, its load temps that count and if they are OK with your GTX then i would stick with the stock cooling as it is pushes the hot air out the back of your case with the dual slot cooler the GTX has, the cooler you are considering will cool your GPU better but all the heat will be dispersed in the case, which is not the case with the stock cooler.

I would say 50c is about normal for a case that dont have a s%%&* load of fans its a OC model after all.I had the Thermalright HR-03/R600 on my 2900 and bear in mind that run a lot hotter than your 8800 but it did make my case and cpu temps go up as the air was blown around my case instead of out from a blower/stock cooler.GPU temps went down a lot and if the 8800 is the same as the 2900's you can mount them both ways top and bottom.With 2 , might not get a sound card in the middle or even below will be tight if you can.

i had 65c idle temps, with a fan blower helping, now at ~60c.

50c idle is really good. really no need to change

yeah think i will stick with it for the time being.

Its hard to measure the load temps right? How would I go about doing it?

You would have thought all the air would be pushed out of the air slot, but a lot of stagnant hot air lingers below and above the card, thus telling me that the fan is pretty poor at blowing the hot air out of the slot.

I have got a spot cooler blowing cool air towards the fan opening on the card, thus helped bring down the idle temps from 59*C to the currect 51*C.

With the Thermal Right cooler I get about 48c idle, it's load temperatures that are more important and that's were most better coolers kick in. The more heat, the better they work. Generally.

With Arctic Cooling Accelero Extreme 8800 fitted, mine is idle at 39 (60% fan) and fully load at 47, it blows the Thermalright HR-3 Plus right out of the case:p If you're buying a cooler for 8800GTX, this is the one to get, forget TR:o I remember reading somewhere even though it doesn't blow hot air out of the case like the reference cooler the temprerature at load is a lot lower than the toasty 80-90 with stock cooler, so it doesn't make any difference.

I'd buy it a thermal blanket before hypothermia sets in. :)
50 C is nothing.

Get a pair of them in SLI and the only time the cores would be at 50C is when the PC is turned off.

got another card on the way!

btw these temps are taken from GPU-Z and NOT from NVIDIA monitor.
Here's a screen shot of the temperatures this morning! Sub 50*C

SLI - HAHAHAHAHAHAHA - 60*C++++ idle

HAHAHA - the jokes on me!!!

Just got a second 8800 GTX OC2 and wooooow!:eek::eek:
The temps have gone through the roof!

(also my cpu temps have increased too!:mad: max core temp idle was 33*C)

those temps are still considered underground in my books.

I think you would struggle to get 2 x Thermalright HR-03-PLUS (8800 GTX) VGA Cooler's.

I've got one and it's mentally big.
