Hi Guys,

i've recently bought a DFP from the MM, it hasn't arrived yet but is brand new (sealed)... after buying it i read about a new wheel being released called the driving force gt:

now, i'm seriously wondering if it will be worth not opening it and selling it on so i can get this when it comes out in may...

anyone know more about it and whether it will be worth waiting for?

p.s. something else i was curious about, there is a pic of the DFP in GT5:P, so you can set up exactly for that wheel, but there isn't a pic of this new one, or the G25 for that matter... for wheels that are not listed do you just have to live with whatever the default configurations are?

Looking at the actual body of the wheel, it's exactly the same as the driving force pro (which i own), it does have its own section in the GT menu, but that is for mapping out its own buttons, the driving force pro and that wheel share the same section of the options for setting force feedback etc. I imagine the two are near enough identical in terms of steering and force feedback. Also it looks like that'll cost around £100, which seems like a bit much for me for a couple of extra buttons.

hmm, well i paid £56 posted for the DFP so that will be a hefty increase in price (in fact if i was going to spent a ton on it i'd just go the extra mile for the G25, saying that although i think it is a superb bit of kit, it would just simply be overkill for me...)

it may well be listed at an RRP of around £100, but the DFP has an RRP of 90 remember so it may realistically be around £80 in the online shops next month...

still a tough call... do i open the DFP box or not

could i ask another q to all you gamers in-the-know?

the one i've bought has the Logitech logo in the middle, when i look at older ones it has the GT logo which i assume was the one that was released to complement GT4...

are the new(er) ones actually any different, or did they just remove the GT branding? the one i'm getting is in the packaging pictured below which is different to other ones i've seen in a blue box so i'm assuming its the last release before they switch all efforts to the Racing Force GT? can anyone confirm this is the latest release?

Keep the one you have. I have the G25 and have played on the new GT and to be honest it didn't knock my socks off. Just think of the money you have saved with the PRO at only 56, and get enjoying the game. The GT will be about 90quid, told that by sony reps.

I bought mine new a couple of weeks ago and it has the logitech logo, so i assume you're right in that the newer ones have that as opposed to the older GT logo ones. I've done plenty of reading about and there aren't any common issues that the DFP has had in the past, so i assume they're all pretty much identical as there wasn't any need for a new revision as nothing needed fixing. The GT ones were just limited edition as far as i can tell.

I seriously doubt the new gran turismo wheel will offer anything significant to warrant the extra cost you will incurr, if you really want to fork out for a premium wheel then the G25 is the way to go, but after playing GT5:P extensively i really see nothing that the DFP really needs aside from maybe a clutch pedal.

I would go for the new one, just for the fact that with the red knob you can change traction control and things just like an F1 driver while driving!!!!!

Theirs very little difference between the PRO and the new upcoming GT wheel. They share the same pedals etc.

Its a revised product really with improved FFB, the new controls for RTA (real time adjustment) a thinner wheel (Pro wheel is very thick for some weird reason) The G25 is still by far the best wheel but is approx £150. The G25 is the only wheel with DUAL FFB motors, much stronger metal materials and comes highly recommended.

Want more info or the best comparison going see my thread section 4 here

that real time adjustment thing, although it sounds good seems to me to be a lairy red dial in the middle of an otherwise lovely looking wheel and is something that will probably only work in GT5... i doubt it will do a soddin' thing in all other games so i'm not sure why they've made such a massive feature of it...

but improved FFB, thats always good... i'm still swaying towards just sticking with what i got comingn tho... yes i would love the G25 but for me if you've even got a wheel (as long its of reasonable standard and with FFB) then yoiu're already leagues ahead enjoyment wise than the controller-using folk... for the amount i would use it, the G25 would really be overkill although i do appreciate it :)

besides which its not viable for me since i need the gear shift bit to be attached to the main unit...

well, i've got my DFP now and i'm pretty damn sure i wont be willing to upgrade to the DFGT... the reason being that the main selling point of the DFGT is all the "on-the-fly" adjustments you can make...

well, what they dont tell you is that the DFP is more than capable of doing this anyway!, in the wheel setup it is no problem to set the L2 button to bring up the adjustment interface and then use the d-pad to navigate and adjust... its perfectly intuitive and not an issue!

so there you have it, this new red dial is actually just an independent way of doing something which you can do anyway ;)
