Why are people so pathetic?

If a fire starts on a plane I am on, I see no point in screaming or panicing! I know full well that there is absolutely nothing I can do to help the situation so I would just rather sit there and pray!

I really don't see why people run around screaming and shouting when there is a disaster... how is that going to help? Fair enough if you are shouting to warn others, but you aren't exactly helping if you are doing it because you are scared!

Which is easy to say while typing away at a computer screen.

Most people, when faced with the possibility of impending death, dont think 'Now whats the most rational way to behave in this situation?'

I haven't been is any major disasters so I can't say what I would exactly be like, but I know my personality etc and I can guess how I would react.

Quite a few years ago, my Dad was driving along and had to brake suddenly. I was in my mid teens and was sitting in the passenger seat. The car skidded and was heading straight for the car in front. I didn't have a clue how bad the situation would be, but I didn't panic or anything because I know full well that it would probably make the sitation worse as it would distract my Dad!

That's because you froze - another form of panic;)

can do naf all about it, why waste energy shouting the obvious, :) trust the crew to do their jobs, and make it as easy as you can for them

Pfft, all you non-panickers are wusses. I'm so awesome I not only wouldn't panic if I saw the engine on fire, I'd climb out on to the wing and put it out myself. Then I'd knock the pilot out with a swift judo punch and land the plane myself.

No I didn't freeze... I was looking at what my Dad was doing and how the other cars around us were reacting, trying to work out what options my Dad had. If I had thought of something helpful I would have said something... although the whole situation only lasted around 5 seconds.

I remember some crazy Chinese woman grinning after this whole incident (it was all her fault)

Lol! That had me laughing :)

Exactly, you would have thought the pilot would be on the speakers saying, "Its only an engine fire, the plane will land easily on one engine, and I've shut of the fuel so the plane can't explode, stop being such idiots and sit down and be quiet."

Wow, you really don't have a clue, do you! You'd be pooing yourself like everyone else even if he DID say that. You're full of it.

Erm wait.... fire from one of the engines and you're saying their reactions are pathetic? Well aren't you the internet hardman

What annoies me is not the panic, its the media, and then peoples comments afterwards, fair game, they were probably all dropping bricks, and rightly so .. but..

"There wasn't a lot of information being given.
Do you expect the pilot to stop dealing with the situation just to give you a detailed overview of the situation ?

The pilot managed to make an emergency landing after circling over the sea to get rid of fuel.
Yes , it sounds lovley and dramatic - but its standard procedure , and i doubt it was much more that a slightly heavy landing.
