Steam: CS:S LAN Gaming with same account?

Hi guys,

I've tried googling around but most returned answers of either Steam Account ownz! or something entirely off.

Basically, I have a Steam account on my Laptop which holds my CS:S game (and others), is it possible to install CS:S using that same account on my Home Desktop and log both of them in to play CS:S together? Even if it's LAN + Bots?

The CS:S I have is downloaded via steam and lock to my steam account.

you mean you want to use the same account on both computers and use them in a lan with each other ?

i dont think it will work. at least it wont work online i think.

in lan...there may be a loophole.

Would have thought you would have to do offline mode on both by deactivating your internet.

Online, no.

Offline you should be able to use them both in offline made for a LAN providing your game datails are authorised by steam.

I never tried with CS:S, but we had 5 machines running 1.6 over two accounts all in Online mode but connected to our own network game.

It will work in Offline mode, you don't have to have your internet off just block Steam or disconnect while you start it.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a run - it is possible to back up the CS:S from my laptop's steam local cache and then bring it to my desktop, login to steam and use that backup file right?

Really cannot be bothered downloading over 3GB of game files again

should work . make sure you get the right file and also i think theres a config file (?) you have to change to add it in. anyway try it and let us know how it goes on

Use Steams backup utility and then copy the backup to your other computer and run the setup.

Just copy it over steam folder is copyable.

Agree with waso_dude, I just keep steam installed on one partition, if I upgrade it still works.

It is copyable but making the backup makes sure it has everything you need.

It worked a treat, been playing it all day with my little brother. Basically I copied my CS:S from steam, just right lick the game icon in steam, properties, backup. Copy over and viola. Ran them both over LAN, didn't try both same account online tho... might try it on a none VAC server later tonight.

Online won't work. Once the second person logs on it will log out the other user and drop them from the server

Yea, tried it and it didn't work. Oh well, LAN gaming is still fun enough for now - damn bots are too predictable tho.

Anyone know if there is downloadable bots?
