Hey guys,

Just moved into rented property with the girlfriend and have convinced her that we don't need to save this year and should get "things" out the way that we want to do before buying a house/saving up.

This leaves me with two choices car wise.

205 gti

Currently a 1.6 205 with 130k on the clock, still running ok but with a little rust on the sill so need to see how severe this is before thinking about the rest. If ok...

Swap engine for 2.0 gti-6 engine (£500)
Sort suspension / handling out
Semi strip interior
Get roll cage / buckets fitted

This would be used a a trackday car / weekend fun. Would cost a fair bit in total but I'm thinking I could take all summer to do the upgrades. Would be VERY fun and feel a lot faster than the vrs I think. Should be near 200bhp/tonne?

Octavia VRS

I already have a few mods including stage 1 with APR, was thinking about getting a 100 cel cat + cat back and go for a stage 2 tuning. Would cost £600~ in total and should bring me up to around 240bhp.

The vrs is my daily drive (45 minutes each way to work) the 205 is my girlfriends daily drive but we've moved about 10 minutes from her work so she'll be walking to work most days unless it's chucking it down.

What would you do? ;)

I'm edging towards the 205 idea for funnsies :o:p

.... msn!

TripleT, the stripped out idea is just an option. I want to keep the whole dash, not sure what would need to be removed for the cage to be installed.

Lots of things I need to look into really :o

Depends on the cage you're going for. half cage, just the rear seats and then you can just fit the carpet around the cage. Or just don't cage it and get some 307HDi brakes :D

Yes, the brakes def need an overhaul. 307HDi brakes eh? I'll have a look :)

I was going to do the engine first and worry about the rest after... and yes I know it's the wrong way to do it :D

Weigh the 205 in, spend the money on the Octavia. Or replace the Octavia.

The 205 is going fine, sailed through the last MOT and engine is still strong despite being highish mileage for a 1.6.

I'm guessing you haven't driven a 205 gti? :D

ive driven a junior rally spec 1.4xs on a loose surface and had a bloomin good laugh :D Controllable Lift off oversteer was the order of the day, with a rally instructor copiloting me around the course. What a laugh :D

But for road use i think it'd have to be the octy getting heavily remapped and fettled, bigger brakes decent suspension etc, will certainly be quick :D

Tom.

VRs, have fun in those 45 minutes everyday!

Oh trust me I do :p

Hmm, it's running nicely now. G-tech'd 6.3 secs to 60 iirc. Stage 2 plus the exhaust would be a nice increase (obviously not 0-60 but overall, don't think I could get it any lower than that really), then i'd be looking at suspension / handling.

Brakes are already pretty good really, 312mm up front and 256mm on the back- stopping power has always impressed me on it.

Guess I'm thinking the 205 will be faster with a gti6 (more bhp/tonne anyway) and will feel faster.

When I get a spare £10k maybe I'll take a look, infact no I wouldn't. I sell it and get something silly :D

Just been out in the 205 and boy was it fun, you can just stick it into corners and it'll stay there. Been having fun with a big quite roundabout near me too... addicted to it!

I've decided i'm going to do the 205. Mainly because it'll be an ongoing project and I get learn a lot more than I know now along the way. Westy said he'll come down and help if needed (yes please!), got another mate who will help and already sourced a engine crane I can borrow for free etc... The vrs is running great and I the tuning so far is pretty mild, the more I push it the more likely things will go wrong / wear out. It's my daily drive so I just don't need that.

Couple of months saving and should be able to afford the first part.... ;)

Well... I've found;

MI16 engine- top end rebuilt 7k ago / bottom end 500 miles ago. Waterpump/cambelt etc.. all done.

Properly reangled exhaust manifold

Everything else needed (AFM/TB/Waterworks/Loom/Ecu)

Possible clutch (if not I'll get an mi16 clutch for like £30, going to keep the 1.6 gearbox for better gearing)

Dyno printout of it making 160bhp before the new bottom end.

£500 ono.

Need to run a quick insurance quote to see what it'll be like with the mi16 engine, if it's good then I'm going to get it!!

Doesn't look like it'll be THAT complicated to do, infact shortening the downpipe and the loom are the 2 main problems (downpipe easy to sort with a grinder/welder)...... he says :D
