Thinking about it, most manufacturers have some sort of interesting cars

Ford have the RS/ST cars
Vauxhall have the VXR range
Renault have the renaultsport cars, not to mention the Cup editions
Citroen Have an intensive WRC programme, and the C4 VTS is a token gesture, but at least there is one
Audi / BMW / Mercedes are of course legendary in their own right for performance cars
VW of course have the Golf GTI, not to mention the Passat W8. Not in the same league, but still something with a bit of oomph

The list goes on ..

But Toyota, despite being the worlds biggest manufactuer have nothing. And to think back to the days of the TRD Supras in J-GT and the Celicas in WRC, and all the turbo jap nutter stuff that went with it.

Bring back the supra i say :( There was a concept photo of it at the ring floating around the internet, but nothing since. Is it ever going to see the light of day ?

To be honest.. although the last attempt at the Celica was OK, the one before it (Mid 90s?) looked mint, I think its about time that got another facelift.

big power 300 horse MR2 turbo ;)
500 horsey supra :) :) :)

its not too much to ask for is it?

They were testing a Supra type car on the Ring last year. there were some spy shots of it. I doubt it'll be like the original and will be somewhere between that and the new GT-R.

Remember Toyota own/run Lexus which do put out some fast cars but nothing GT-R Type-R VXR bod boy wikkd y0 though. I think too many manufacturers are rebadging shared platforms as performance vehicles, nothing is standing out as special anymore as every company has an answer to another companies flagship model, bar Toyota of course.

Yaris SR not good enough for ya?

130 brake. 0-60 in 9 seconds !!!!

Seriously though, that's pretty crap. My Focus is the same figures but weighs nearly twice as much! :p

there is a lack of anything really juicy in the range at the moment, after the celica and mr2 dropped out theres not anything even sporty any more.

The t-sport yaris doesn't count, and the corolla/auris... well now the super charged ones gone, isn't exactly exactly quick.

there supposidly is a new rear driven Scooby engined Celica in the works which would kick rear, there is also the supra, but god knows when thats going to turn up...

all in all they have gone somewhat soft at the moment :(

i mean toyota seem to have given up producing anything interesting, and all but 1 forms of motorsport. And ploughed all the money into F1

but the sort of people who watch F1 avidly dont buy Toyota Prius'

as for the Supra, i dont think it will ever see the light of day. A quick google reveals a concept show at a motor show this time last year that was 85 % ready

hmm .. maybe not.

there was another Supra concept, a hybrid shown in 2006 that never materialized either.

Regular disucssion on GT4OC this is.

All manufacturers are making cars more sedate and livable with on a day to day basis, just the way the market is at the moment.

Look at Honda with the Type R, Subaru with the Impreza and even Mitsubishi with the Evo. Only recent exception in my eyes in the Nissan GT-R.

but looking at the price tags - the GT-R is an execption, but more so in the sense it's nothing like the other cars be it in class or price

yeah because the new Audi RS6 is what you'd consider sedate

same goes with the new BMW M3 with a big V8 under the bonnet

Subaru and Mitsubishi show no signs of slowing down their latest cars either. They're evolving, but still packing 300+ horsies.

And what about the bonkers 280bhp Twin Turbo Vectra VXR ?

some of the manufacturers are , not all ;)

Ok, the Germans are the exception to prove the rule!

Not sure on Scoobies cause I hate the things, but IIRC the latest Evo X is actually slower than a standard Evo V?

Haven't they only released the gay 280 version of the Evo X so far, where as they normally seem to launch with bigger than that, ie 340 or so on the 8/9?

I think Toyota are developing Lexus as a strong sports car brand. Look at consumers in Toyotas current market base: they buy Toyotas for their reliability. Toyota are developing this brand, whilst building Lexus as the premium and sports brand: The IS-F for example.

this is half the problem

as far as im aware all the various FQ versions were ralliant tuned, not factory models from japan. Because the model thats been released so far is only the basic versions

the FQ faster versions and the GSR version for rallying etc.. will be released later.

Oh, and most of the comparisons of the Evo VI and Evo X have been based on the special edition Evo VI tommia makkinen edition, a very special piece of kit.

Standard evo X puts out just as much HP as the standard EVO VI did, if not more.

Does the Lexus LF-A or the supra hybrid count?

Or the IS-F?

To answer the question "why have Toyota become so boring" I'd point out that they are the biggest manufactures in the world right now. Clearly niche performance models don't fall into their master plan.

Sure is, The standed Version is probably the biggest selling car down here at the moment:cool:

Ive seen the Actual TRD Supercharged version in the flesh though:cool:

Shame its a ****ing FWD though:mad:

I give toyota a year or 2 until the beasts start rolling off the line again:cool:

If you look around Toyota have brought out some marvelous engines lately aswell(Big ones, Not really little ones)

One of the thing that is probably holding back are big Girls Vaginas like these people making them look not so good

Criticism of environmental performance
Corporate watchdog Corporate Accountability International (CAI) selected the Toyota Motor Corporation as one of its nominees (along with Archer Daniels Midland, Countrywide, Mattel, Nestle, Blackwater, Wal-Mart, and Wendy’s) for its 2008 “Corporate Hall of Shame” elections. CAI states that Toyota is contributing to inaction on global warming. The watchdog group claims that "the company has hypocritically crafted an image as a corporate ally in the fight against climate change while working behind the scenes to stop greenhouse gas mandates from becoming law." The group points out that Toyota, has opposed “clean cars” legislation in many U.S. states, and is employing "aggressive lobbying efforts" to prevent legislation to limit gas-guzzling vehicles by 2020.[32]

According to CAI, despite the green image surrounding the Prius, the company's hybrid sales are only part of its story. Toyota also produces the 14-mile-per-gallon (mpg) Tundra pickup truck and other “gas guzzlers” which lower the company’s fleet-wide fuel efficiency to "levels below what they were several decades ago."

**** of Environmental ****ers:mad:
