Hi all,

I have a long DVI cable (5mtrs total) and when I use it with my Powercolor 1950XT I get green dots running around the screen on black backgrounds. This also happens when I connect the cable to an ATi 3850 pro.

However the cable works fine with a Powercolor 1950 Pro and an Nvidia 7600GO (laptop gfx card).

All work fine with a shorter 1mtr lenght dvi cable.

Any recommendations? Can it be the signal strenght of the DVI port on the video card? Will I be safe with an Nvidia card (was thinking 9600GT)? help? :)

I think it could well be that the longer cable and increased data is too much for the cable. (I know this is true for HDMI cables)

That is if faster videocards actually send more data thru the cable, can anyone confirm or deny this?

Wouldn't the 1950XT send more data than a 1950PRO then (assuming that is the case)? I do believe the signal strenght being sent out of the DVI port is the problem here but I have no idea how to tackle it properly... but I may very well be wrong.

You can drop 3dB across a connector, it could be as simple as your contacts are poor on some cards.
