Muslim is spared a speeding ban so he can drive between his two wives

What a surprise, it's a Daily Fail article

I wouldn't use that rag to wipe my arse........

As for the punishment, totally wrong and he should have been banned, but I'm sure the 2-wives thing was way down on the list of the judges considerations. As already mentioned, it was the same old 'I need my license for work' thing.

One rule for one person, one rule for another!? Can I say that in my religion it is offence to take photos of my property and therefore avoid Gatso's?

Seriously wound up over this.

But that's bigamy. Is bigamy not a crime? Or does he have 2 "wives".

It's only illegal if you marry them in this country, if you were already married to two people elsewhere you're allowed to keep them both.

AFAIK.

Seriously wound up over this.

Why? Because you lack the ability to think for yourself so just accept whatever sensationalist crap the Daily Mail tells you to be angry at?

No. I can think for myself and usually hate the media for it's "FEAR" factor, but this story just annoys me. Why should they lay down rules for exceptions to be made based on religion and cultural differences?

For instance if a muslim was to murder somebody and get sentenced to life, how fair would it be if they were allowed out to pray after 5 years because it is against their religion.

Please explain why he should be allowed to break the rules and get away with it when others don't?

I might try the excuse, "It was an act of God". Yes, I watch too much TV. But I have a clean license and haven't been in the wrong place at the wrong time, so far so good.

I wonder how much we can realistically blame on our faith. Surely its our choice to follow this faith, our choice to work and our choice to break the law. So ideally, who cares?! Break the law pay the price, simple as. Really annoys me.

Totally agree, thank you for wording it better than me :)

I think the last two posters need to realise that it wasn't his religion that made a difference to the outcome, but his plea of "I need my car to get to work", which is widely used in this situation. The media has simply got the fact that he was a muslim and he also said that he needs to see his wives to put a spin on an otherwise simple case for mindless idiots to grab onto and start getting their pitchforks out.

To quote myself there. He knows he has a job, 2 wives and he's speeding. Regardless of that, it shouldn't be a get out of jail free card. Religion is only a small part of the argument.

Just because I only work in an office 7 miles away I get a ban on my record, my insurance will increase more than his will and I will have to pay for alternative transport while the car I love driving sits there devaluing itself.

It's a pretty raw deal and I think there should be a set rule as speeding evidence is pretty substantial to be honest so we should have a set system of fine/points and bans.

Well, try reading it better then.

He was let off because he has a business he would probably lose if he was banned, not because he was a muslim, exactly the same as many many many people, christian, jewish, muslim, whatever, get let off with every day of the week.
