Hey guys,

Just got a new 8800 GTX OC2 delivered today but things are not going well!

Looking in GPU-Z i see this:
gpuzgc1.jpg

note the different BIOS versions, core, memory, and shader clocks, as well as it telling me SLI is not enabled even though it is.

The older GTX is the one that's reporting as the OC2 varient, the correct clocks etc, but the newer one which literally came in stock at OcUK as of yesterday, is repoting as a 8800 GTX OC.
I have spoken to BFG tech support in the US and they say that I should get a replacement, which I'll probably arrange tomorrow.

Just curious as to why this card stickered everywhere as a OC2 on the box and the actual card, as well as it's serial number, is appearing as an OC!

I noticed that on my older OC2 that the small sticker on the card which tells you the BIOS revision is crossed out with a pen, on my new 'OC2 (OC)' it's not, and shows the older BIOS version - the BIOS version for the OC varient.

Strange....

Anyways, anyone else had the same problems?? Apart from getting a replacement any other suggestions??

oh yeah also i have updated to the latest version of GPU-Z (0.1.9) and it now reports that my cards are SLI enabled. I checked the older version (0.1.7) in XP and it showed them enabled too.

So i am guessing that the older GPU-Z version didn't correctly detect SLI in Vista??

How??
I can't change the clocks for the second GPU...

any ideas??

Presumably you're tried ticking the "enable driver level hardware overclocking' to edit the sliders?

Also RivaTuner is showing your second card @626MHz which seems correct...

Haven't got the option in RivaTuner to overclock the second GPU, only get the option with the first one...

Was looking into this, but don't know really how to do it? Or is it idiot proof?

I wouldn't say idiot-proof, but it's pretty straightforward. There's a tool called nvflash that when used with a boot floppy/CD/USB drive, you can backup the old BIOS, and/or flash a new one, ctrl+alt+del and hey presto.

But why should he take the risk? He didn't get what he bought. If he had wanted too he could have saved money and bought an OC and flashed the bios.

Send it back for another IMHO. Flashing bios and going wrong will invalidate warranty

It's no more risky than flashing a motherboard. Anyway, all the cards are exactly the same, BFG and the other brands just put a pre-clocked BIOS on them and charge a premium :D. They aren't speedbinned, as some struggle to keep their cards stable at stock (read: pre-overclocked) settings.

Yeah, this is what i am thinking.... Will RMA it tomorrow - very strange graphics card though! Looks as though BFG needed to shift these cold 8800 GTX OC varients by 'upgrading' them to OC2 speeds - changing stickers, part numbers, but forgetting to change the BIOS - D'oh

thanks for your input guys.

Why would you flash the card? You did not get the card you paid for. Get it replaced.

My only concern is that the replacement GTX OC2 will be an OC too. Need to make sure that the warehouse chaps can identify the BIOS sticker is crossed out, (as in the case of my older card), before they ship me another OC! :D

Sounds like they have sent you a wrong one then. :(

well its gotta be someone forgetting to flash the bios before selling it as an OC2 instead of an OC - the actual card looks identical to my other one OC2 branding everywhere - only GPU-Z/+other software reveals something different.
