Ikaruga - XBLA

Excellent old school shooter that was on the Gamecube, and it's rather hard :p

Just playing the trial now but I'll probably buy it.

Pretty difficult (/me awaits the 'zomg its so easy' elitists), but its a fantastic spin on the scrolling space shooter concept and in its day (gamecube) it looked stunning. Be aware tho, it isn't one for the youngsters, its sulk city as at moments it feels just plain unfair.

Looks great, too much for me. Not a big fan of the real narrow set up any longer and even on the first level it was too tough for me.

Most of the time I was killing stuff and the screen was full of enemy fire there wasn't a space to move too.

I'm not old school enough for this.

Aplogies if I'm wrong, but are you not the guy who constantly complains how modern games are too easy these days?

You know you're supposed to absorb that enemy fire, not avoid it all, don't you?

There's a button to change your shield and weapon color/polarity from black to white, and vice versa. Whatever colour your shields are, you absorb enemy shots of that type. You store all that fire up, and then release it as a powerful homing attack, by pressing another button.

The whole point to Ikaruga is trying to negotiate through the enemy fire by switching polarity at the right times. Well, that and chaining enemies, but that's for a later date of learning. :p

A few years back we used to have a crt tv setup on its side for the GC version. I guess you could hook it to a monitor that can be turned.

Your wrong, I'm an average gamer at best. I find the games much harder than I used to. You would be hard pushed to find many games I would have said are too easy :(

Ah balls and there's me trying to avoid it all. :D I will re-download it :)

Hehe :p

Click on the how to play option on the menu, it has a little demo and explains the polarity thing.

Yeah I never read instructions for these games, I just download try and quit to dash :D

Very few of these old school shooters I could finish, R-type I think is the only one.
