I'm looking around for a Gainward Bliss 7800GS+ 512MB AGP.

Now I thought these were all 24 pipeline? But some appear to be 20 pipeline?

Did they produce to variations of them? Any easy way to tell them apart?

Thanks...

AHA! Just found this... Typical!

There are 3 types of 7800GS:

Clockspeed Core: 375MHZ
Clockspeed Mem: 1200MHZ
Pipes: 20
Gainwards barcode: 471846200-7685

Gainward 7739-BLISS 7800GS Silent 512MB
Gainward GeForce BLISS 7800GS AGP 512MB

Gainwards barcode: 47846200-7739

Gainward 7876-BLISS 7800GS Silent 512MB GS+
Gainward GeForce BLISS 7800GS GoldenSample AGP 512MB

I think the 24 pipe versions were only made in limited numbers and very expensive. I think they are roughly the same as a x1950pro in terms of power

The Gainward GS is the 7800GT with 20 pipes, the GS+ has 24 pipes, and I thought it was based on the 7900GT?.

Anyway GS=20 GS+=24.

Pretty sure only Gainward did this, so other branded GS's are lower specification.

Hi
I have the middle version (20 pipes and 512M VRAM) sitting in a drawer at home - cost £300 when new though the performance with the right CPU/RAM was pretty good at the time for AGP systems (was great for CS and BF2). And to think you could nearly get 2 8800 GTXs for that now . . .

cjph

Later Gainward GS+ did have 20pipes and non Samsung Memory (think 1400mhz DDR).

If you have a Rev 1 it should be 24pipes and 1.2ns Samsung memory rated to 1600mhz DDR @2.0v (but undervolted to 1.76v approx)

Basically a AGP 7900GTX, same Core, same Memory size, infact same PCB with a Bridge Chip soldered to it.

You can still find some of the G71 powered cards for sale, but read the descriptions carefully, some people advertise their cards as GS+ and they are'nt ( the boxes are all similar in appearance). Expect to pay a reasonable amount though i sold mine for £112.00 only a month or so ago.

Remember some other brands later had G71's with only 20pipes enabled like XFX etc.

The only way you can really tell for sure is looking in Rivatuner tab for 24 Pipes and 8 Vertex.

Gainwards later GS+ Revision only had 20 Pipes.

The Gainward Bliss 7900 GS AGP 512MB GS had only 20 Pipes.

Beware of the 24 pipeline GS+ they have very high failure rate. The later 20 pipeline GS+ I believe is a lot more reliable but quite a bit slower...

If your looking for a performance AGP card then the 3850 pro is probably the fastest.

Huh !
The high failure rates related to standard 7800s' not the GS+. There was only 1500 made & each was made from hand picked components. I've not heard of a Single GS+ failure.
I am Obviously biased though as i bought one for Top dollar when they came out clocked the **** off it since day one & Still run it to this day overclocked playing COD4/BF2/RFactor/ etc
Mind you though who'd listen to an Actual user who clocks all his components to hardcore game every day of the year :D Best of listening to reviewers a, Perhaps i should start reading these review thingys :p

Bit impolite of me not to answer the o.p. but you know me Dog with a Bone & all that.
The one you want is the 1st edition Gainward like mine & like others have said you need a Screeny of Rivatuner off the seller. At least that way if he doctors the screeny to suit you can claw your dough back if you payed via paypal.
My head memory is crap but my card has the later chip on it & the 24 pipes where as the other 7800's don't.

Don't they come with a Lifetime warranty or am i imagining things, I do remember it was dear though, I've had mine ages now I'll have to dig out the receipt. I could dig out my box as well see if there is anything noticeably different about them.

Well I'm having a Dilema at the mo as my mobo is crapping out so I'm thinking of selling mine on. It has been faultless for me i must say & no complaints here espeically as I'll get a good price for it as well. I'll only sell it as a last resort though & am still hunting for an AGP mobo. I like my old school system, it suits this old school gamer & his zero budget & as long as it plays the games i want as it does I'm happy.
Best thing about the card for me is the temps under load, It dropped my whole ambient temps across the board & i haven't worried about temps since the day i got it. Even after a few months of use & loads of dust & smoke & filth from me the temps still never go above 55c. It idles at 42c & usally peaks at around 52c bringing my case temps down loads from my previous x800pro/modded/clocked. Once it's up to 55c i know it's time for a dust out then it's back to 52c as max & this is after/during 3 hours sessions of COD4 or RFactor online or a whole evening of BF2 IO.
This is why i am desperatly trying to get another AGP mobo rather than go PCI-E & 8800 temps. Being a clocker i have been on a holiday with this card as far as stress & heat goes & i am sure any clocker can understand that.

8800GT isn't too bad - mine runs 44C idle and 65C underload on the stock cooler and thats OC'd from 600 to 740Mhz and volt modded - I had to increase the fan's base speed from 30% to 45% to get that tho - but putting something like the Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 on would provide quiet cooling - but it is going to be emitting more heat into the case...

If you look at my sig/spec you'll see I'm currently running a X800 pro... So can you give me an idea of how much of an improvement the Gainward gave you?

Will it allow me to run modern games on an average setting instead of current the absolute lowest, or indeed not at all :)

Is it an issue this card is DirectX9 and Shader Model 3? ie: The newer cards are DirectX10 and Shader Model 4 (eg: HIS ATI Radeon HD 3850 Pro)... Thanks...

ALSO - I think my PSU would need to be updated as well :(

If you want to use Vista then the lack of DX10 will definitely be an issue, especially as more time goes by.

Better to put £60 to it and get a GTX then........;)
