Warhammer 40k MMO!

I hope they make it really dark and gothic like the spirit of the original game, and not slightly cartoony like the dawn of war games. A WOW-style look wouldn't work too well with WH40k IMO.

yeah but the warcraft series has always been quite cartoony hopefully this will be live up to the series.

surely there gonna have a problem with over powering space marines nuking every1 else. also it will be interesting to see what they make for pve enemies. also u dont tend to here about lone space marines, imperial guard, elder or orks just wondering around the place killing local monsters

ooh yeah. this migfht get me back into MMO's...if I had time to play.

The problem here is the space marines, they are going to have to be underpowered as there will be an "everyone wants to be a space marine" complex, meaning a lack of players in the other races I think.

One way they could do it is to start off space marine players as scouts, let them build up to being a marine in the higher levels, everyone wants to be a space marine, but who wants to be a scout?

Also second the nids being unplayable as it would make the whole game unbalanced for nid players as they are just a swarm race not really compatible with MMO gameplay.

I want to be a scout :P I always had tonnes of scouts. Loved em. Low points cost, easily expendable, deep deployment (forget what its called), and sniper rifles! :D

4 sniper rifles + 1 heavy bolter = lots of death :)

i could see scouts still being quite popular in the game + the i want to be a space marine complex would mean many would force there way through scouthood anyway.

what they could do is:

all humans start as imperial guard,
then have the option of joining a space marine chapter
space marine trials
scout
full marine
1st company veteran

another tree means you could end up as an inquisitor or something

well thats what i would like to see

Another tree could be:

space marine trials
scout - to possibly chaos scout
full marine - to possibly chaos marine

Would make it quite interesting as people would have to choose which way to go, and no way of going back/respec.

A WH40k MMO has been in development for quite a few months.

Personaly i think a WH40k MMO would be best if it was done like planetside, except without the problems.

Yeah, a PS style 40k would be amazing. But that article mentions it will be RPG at it's core - which is slightly worrying (tabula rasa anyone?)

They'll keep it as simple as possible to appeal to the WoW crowd - choose human and get a class choice of scout, marine, librarian, inquisitor, captain, apothecary, maybe sister of battle.

Choose Eldar and get dark reaper, banshee, warlock, farseer, and so on.

Let's face it, if you buy a Warhammer 40k game, you don't want to spend 10 levels getting to be a space marine, you want to be using that chainsword pretty much straight away. NOBODY will want to even start as an imperial guard.

Besides, it would be a bit of an insult to the lore to have you change from a guard to a space marine after a few simple levels and quests. Better to have the years of training, additional organs and implants as part of character creation.

space marine trials
scout - to possibly chaos scout
full marine - to possibly chaos marine
Officer - to possibly get buffs for party/squad members which will only be unlocked when you reach the officer rank.
Terminator - will lose the party/squad buffs, as they are no longer officers
Terminator Officer - get back the buffs, but more powerful.

They could possibly do it like Neocron, and have it as a FPS style but the RPG rule under the FPS display.

I am not going to get excited about a 40K MMO until it is a little bit more than vapourware and actually has a release date (that it will miss, all MMOs miss their first release date).

Your all saying that you start off as a Guardsman or normal human and then progress to being a fluu blown Marine, however according to 40K IP (correct me if I'm wrong as when I played it was a long, long time ago) weren't Space Marines some super human race all 8ft tall etc etc that were basically grown in tubes? so to that effect a 'normal' human could never be a Marine?

Also sure that I read somewhere many, many moons ago that (and again correct me if I'm wrong) Marines once they are born into/put on thier armour it cannot be removed?

Marines are recruited as humans while very young (12-16) and then remade as genetically enhanced killing machines.

You are wrong and then right.

Space Wolves are born on their respective planet as normal humans and grow up as tribes people. The chapter takes its pick from these tribes people for the strongest and inducts them into the chapter through rigorous tasks. Its a long time before a space wolf even gets its armour. All of the tests are done before and then the final one is a genetic mutation which gives them their wolf like instincts but can also just make you go crazy.

I imagine its the same sort of deal for other chapters.

Ive never heard of space marines starting out as imperial guard.

I am intrigued as to how they will deal with the character/class selection. Theres so much lore out there and anyone who has read the books will know a great deal more detail about the races than the average player. I highly doubt they could please everyone.

Its true this would be a very hard game to make

The reason for example you couldn't play as a storm trooper in galaxies would be a good example... its a very discipled life, u cant just wander around on your own leveling up killing bunnies with a small knife as a space marine....

If this game isn't an mmofps like planetside i would be very worried that it will flop or be completely different from the canon it is trying to emulate
