Tried searching for a "Vista Optimisation" thread as I know there are a lot of Vista topics, but couldn't find anything helpful. Just wondering when it turns up tomorrow what things I should enable/disable to improve Vista?

So any help here guys?

Obviously I'll update it to SP1 (or hopefully the DVD will be up-to-date already).

But what other things would you recommend? Disable UAC I guess for a start (or set it to run in the background).

Thanks. :D

I have left mine as is. UAC is on and does not annoy me at all, I'm used to it. I would get Vista Manager and speed fan and some nice gadgets to play with on Sidebar. Make sure you have all the drivers you need. As above siad, Vista codec pack plus x64 tools for Media playback thru VMC

Thanks peeps. Good call on the drivers, forgot about that! Off to download everything I need now and I'll put them on my other hdd.

Cheers. :D

Since all my files are stored on my server, i disable indexing. Since i never ever search my hard drive for anything. Its either on the desktop or on the server. I disabled the sidebar too. No need for it.

Any recommendations for websites to go to for these programs? I am installing things from my desktop to laptop at the moment, but having these other programs would help me greatly with my Ultimate x64!

i assumed you'd been on Vista for ages (or have you been using 32?) -edit, that's Fire Wizard, lol

disable defender real-time scanning, tweakuac (quiet mode), disable system restore, disable hibernation

manually remove all file types that you don't need from windows indexing, makes searches a lot lot cleaner & faster

Cheers bledd.

Well after a few days I'm nearly back up and running. Had a complete mare with my wireless network card drivers, but managed to get the AirPace card working. Had to use the Atheros chipset specific drivers in the end for Vista to detect it... grr!

But so far everything seems great, just one or two apps which don't work. Any suggestions chaps?

PeerGuardian2 --- Apparently working on a Vista version.
RegSeeker --- Manages to run, but sometimes will crash and doesn't actually remove registry keys. :( (I love this app as well!)

Hello Firegod,

Have you tried running both programs with Administrative rights by right clicking on either program and then choosing the "Run as Administrator" option?

I'm not sure if you have seen this thread here - If not, maybe it will be of some use to you. :)

Hi, I have tried administrator and it does not work. :( Cheers for that link, I had not seen that. Will have a good read through that.

Thanks.

There is a beta version for Vista here, might be pretty buggy seeing as it is beta no harm in trying it though.

Oooooh. Cheers as well. :D Will check it out!!
