Benefit couple faked 16 children.

10 months jail time for stealing every single penny of tax I've paid for about the past 10 years... Nice to know the government care about my hard work

Scum. Make em clean sewers for 10 years to pay it back.

So, for 20 months, he has a roof, gets fed, clothed, lounges around, plays a ps2 probably - nothing's changed, and still at the tax payers' expense of course. Hard labour I say!!

everyone is dragged though the courts using part of the proceeds of crime act after conviction if not at the same time, most is normally recovered by the department.

Or thats how they make out at least.

10 months in jail for 86k.

Hm. Not a bad years work if you ask me. In that month he'll get food and board free, learn a trade and probably gain a bit of interest on the thousands in the bank. Why the %^&$ do i goto work each day, i'm an idiot in the purist form.

LOL

I hope they are made to pay it back. If not why not

Probably because they have spent it all on gambling and alcohol (oh and he was making an important point about the system of course so that mitigates it - ahem). That and they are both nearly of pensionable age so I somehow doubt there would be much point in trying to make them pay it back, it also doesn't say whether either has a job or not but (and I could be being prejudicial here) with over 100 theft convictions for him and her as an alcoholic I think it unlikely.

After the case Sarah Bamford, of HM Revenue and Customs, said: "This case is the result of many months of intense and thorough work by a dedicated team of tax credit investigation officers, determined to see that these fraudsters were brought to justice."
I think it says a lot about tax credit investigation officers if it takes a dedicated team of them several months to work out that a couple of almost pensioners hadn't had 16 kids in the space of two years. I'm assuming Sarah Bamford is being sarcastic.

So they steal money, they don't have to pay it back. And they get punished with one of the more expensive types of punishment.

Smart move Judge, smart move.

I hope they are made to pay it back. If not why not

They will be but these people never work anyway. They are professional scroungers. Wonder how much more taxpayers money it costs to keep them in jail. They are harmless people.

I dont see how they could do this, true you dont need to send in birth certificates, we didnt with our 3, however they do check with Child benefit to see if you are recieving it for those children and they double check dates of birth. And you do have to send proof in to child benefit to get that. You also have to give your child benefit number on the application form
