Why do we let the government walk all over us?

Why is it that nobody seems to care about the fuel prices anymore?

I've heard the argument "We can't do anything about it" a few times, and it's not so much as "can't" as "won't" in my opinion. Yes there's that stupid amendment that was snuck in that classes blocking refineries as terrorism now, but if there's enough people involved, what are the police actually going to do about it? Even if it's unsuccessful it would start off a wave of panic buying with any luck.

"But I don't drive so why should I care?" Do people not realise it's not just car drivers that are affected? It's going to increase prices at the supermarkets too with haulers having to pay more for the fuel, those costs have to be passed on somewhere!

This government is really ticking me off.

Remember the days of the fuel strikes? imagine if the government told us today's price of fuel back then. The country would have come to a halt.

Now we bend over and take it up the back door with fuel prices.

I noticed the price went from 0.98 to the crucial £1+ in our area during mid Dec/Xmas period. As most people are busy rushing around getting stuff ready for Xmas they didn't realise or care.

Proving my point that people don't take this seriously and just make jokes out of it.
Of course people take it seriously. Tell me though, what can you do about it?

The cost of living has rocketed. What are you going to do about it?

Join the communist revolution. Buy Mao's little red book.

As a little more serious aside, you can't do anything about it. This is the trouble with having a political system where idiots are allowed to vote, and the winners get to do pretty much whatever they want for four years, and in this specific case get to do it again for four more years because the same idiots are still allowed to vote.

Rumour has it that the reason we don't have fuel protests any more is because the security services threatened the leaders of the last protest.

We can make some noise and not just stand back going, meh.
I agree with what your saying its just crazy that people accept it. But the point is that we no longer have the right to strike against the government over fuel which to be honest has taken away a right or abit of freedom. IE the right to question the government when they take the ****. As a country we should be allowed to question or speak up if we feel we are being ripped off. Its ashame that people will just talk instead of taking action. I guess we can all sign a online partition but do you really think that the government will accept this. I just wonder what it will take for British people to doing something as we seem to accept far to much these day. It means we are losing more money each year meaning we earn less. I feel for people on a low income but it will affect us all soon I'm sure.

It is all very well to blame the government and tax but lets not forget that the price of oil has increases too.

Shell made £13 billion profit with petrol and diesel accounting for a multi billion pund figure.

Then there is OPEC which quite simply is a cartel in control of the worlds oil.

It is not as simple as the government imposing fuel duty.

Because the government has systematically cracked down over the last eight years, including defining things such as protesting at refinaries as terrorism and instituting huge, orwellian survellance programs (see here for an example of how spying powers are being rampantly abused).

And all the while, many people, inlcuding on here, have been sitting back thinking the government knows best when they are taking away our freedoms slowly but surely...
