Anyone been on a Survival/Bushcraft course?

So my Dads 50th is coming up...

He loves all the Ray Mears/woodland survival type stuff, so I was thinking of sending him on a survival/bushcraft course.

Anyone ever done anything like this that you can recommend?

Just drive him into the country and kick him out. Much cheaper and thrilling.

My housemate is going on a Ray Mears survival course later this year, and is good friends with one of the instructors. He won't stop banging on about it, so it must be good.

Surely the biggest adventure is doing it for real!

I've been in a few tight spots when out camping. Would like to give one of these courses a go though!

And kick him out nekkid, that way he can hunt for food and clothes at the same time.....trust us, he will thank you for it!!

I had a look at that, but they're booked up until 2009, and £300 per person is a bit steep. :/

Aye, Ray is no fool thats for sure.
I love his programmes, but the prices that are charged for a weeks camp is astronomical. By the time you've shelled out.....you'll be having to catch your own food out of necessity as you'll be skint! So learn well my friends...

However, it is a good idea. I reckon should learn some fieldcraft in their lives.

Someone posted a thread on here a few months back asking for campsites where you could have open fires. One of the places suggested in that did bushcraft courses iirc.

It's not even a week. That £300 is from 0900 on Saturday to 1630 on the Sunday!

Find a book by eve harlow and peter foxwell give him that then kick him out in the country I think they were the originol survival experts they used to train the army and such.

do a google for the 'SAS survival handbook' by John Wiseman

despite the cheesy sounding name this was published before Andy McNab & Co became best selling authors and is simply a very comprehensive guide to survival etc...

I've been on three Ray Mears course and am going on my fourth on the 26 of this month (I can't wait!). They are expensive but you get your moneys worth. All the staff are very knowledgeable and experienced. I have really enjoyed all the courses. They are usually booked up years inn advance but you can sign up for email notifications for last minute cancellations though.

Pop over to www.bushcraftuk.com and have a read, lots of good info in there
