Post Nominals

I understand that people who call themselves doctors after having done a PHD are perfectly CORRECT in doing so, I just think its stupid (and annoying).

Oh and people that call themselves doctor after having done a PHD that has nothing to do with medicine.

It's just that the people who we normally call 'doctors' are doctors of medicine. Anyone can be a doctor, it doesn't have to be in the medical field.

It's funny really.
Ask people in recruitment and the like about putting letters after your name and they will usually say do it.
Ask people who can put letters after their name and they usually say do it and then actually do.

In fact usually, and please forgive me for generalising, it's people who can't put letters after their name who say "don't do it".

If you've earnt them and they are accetable to be used then sure - go for it.

I can put a few letters infront of my name BEng(Hons) PGC and soon MSc but I don't because it makes people think you are an arrogant ****.

Always useful for recruitment purposes, you look like you have, and proud of your, achievements.

I'm not talking about changing your phone bill to show them.
Actually, can you do that?

I'll be sticking PhD after my name sure enough, and if I'm lucky enough (as has been recommended) FRS. Am I arrogant? Probably, but I'd be bloody proud of getting either.

I don't, as a rule, use MSc.

What he said. My older mate bragged he was on 50k a year, gave me his business card, said BA(hons) at the end of his name, i lol'd. I think his degree was in European Economics or something, handy in recruitment! haha.

I don't really see the point in putting letters from a degree after your name unless you have a very specific purpose for doing so or you have achieved a post graduate qualification of some sort because a degree, in and of itself, isn't a particularly special achievement nowadays. I'm not saying that people haven't worked hard for it but it hardly distinguishes you from the rest of the population so to put down the letters merely looks a bit pretentious.

For what it is worth I could put down LLB (Hons) after my name.

a phsycian has different post noms than other phd holders, it varies depending on specialisation etc.
Your local GP should be Dr. X MRCGP, DRPCGP or could be something completely different
