Basically, I have held off buying a new card for a while now. However will be getting a 24" screen next month; so my 1950XTX won't cut it anymore. So for that resolution, the only cards I'm interested in are the 8800GTS 512Mb, 8800GTX and 9800GTX (Not interested in X2/GX2/Xfire).

I'm leaning towards the XFX 8800GTX as it's so cheap:D. However for just a bit more I could get a 9800GTX. A GTS would struggle with AA AF at 1920x1200 I have read, but this is where the 8800GTX comes into its own. (How much of a factor is 256 bus at that resolution with AA AF?)

My idea of performance at the above mentioned resolution (Please correct if wrong).

8800GTX
9800GTX
8800GTS

Basically I think the 8800GTX is the right card, but not 100% - Please advise.

Cheers

Just got a 24" myself and had to get a 8800GTX, better than the 8800GTS at 1920x1200 and cheaper than any 9800 card. At the current price for the XFX version it's a steal.

yes. The higher bandwith and Vram of the 8800GTX will help it pull ahead if you want to pile on the AA/AF...

though it might be worth looking at the HD3870X2, but that's a bit more expensive

There are rumours of a 9900GTX coming in July that's apparently going to own everything (including the 9800GX2). But that's further away than next month...

I think the 8800GTX is better at very high resolutions but I'm no expert...

The 8800 GTX is the fastest out of those 2x, bigger bus, more memory, ideal at 24".

(No your not going blind, i did say those 2, as the 9800 GTX and 8800 GTS are the same cards). :)

Cheers guys, so looks like I'll be getting a 8800GTX:D

Matt1 - Hows the monitor, thats one I'm eyeing up! Along with BenQ FP241VW

It's superb. Moving on from the NEC 20" S-IPS this screen is really good. I do miss the glossy screen but have been very impressed with the BenQ so far in COD4, TF2 and Eve-Online.

I'm in the same position debating on a new GFX card to replace my aging ATi 800XL and its no good for gaming on a 24" monitor!

Was going to consider the 8800GTS but as the GTX is currently on a seriously good offer I think I may just take the plunge, but I do wonder if the price is going to fall much in the next month before I actually get round to using it (uni studies till May!).

Get one now before they go forever if I were you ;)
