Predicted 20,000 city jobs to go this year

I would've expected a lot more than £30p/h

me too - that's not a million miles from my salaried 38h week really...

that said if it is £30 an hour, and they get paid by the hour, and can do a 70h week, then...

Well my overtime is paid at £22.50 an hour so it's not far away and I can easily put in 20-30 hours extra a week if I really want to. I was under the impression that "The City" was full of uber-high earners? Does make me feel better about my wage though :D

Great. Loads of money and... no time to spend it becuase you are either at work, going to or from work, asleep or too burnt out to do anything..

You're comparing your wage to the back office monkeys though.

the uber high earners don't get paid by the hour

Good they are the ones causing misery for the rest of the country, giving out stupid forecasts, buying debt, allowing easy credit.

About time Londoners lost a lot of jobs.

Nah 60-70 hour weeks and an active social life is easy - work hard, play hard, you soon get used to it! Work 8am-8pm, go out 8pm-1am, job done :D

The City is a different world, chockfull of 20-30yr old young professionals earning stackloads of cash with zero/minimal responsibilities. Makes for fun times :)

This 'wideboy' is now off to sit behind a desk and stare at a computer screen all day. Hope everyone has a good day :)

Except I can pull a 60 hour week working 8-4 Monday to Friday. Oh the joys of our overtime system ;)

Not quite, the responsibilities are greater, as is the workload.

If you're on a decent wage then you ARE good. Remember banks and the like don't pay top whack just because. They pay it because they want the best and they have to compete with other city companies for the best and if they don't think you're up to it there's none of this 'development' malarky. They'll just bin you.

I'm sure everyone has a story about a dumb city worker on more than he knows what to do with but my job is working with different banks and large companies - many of which are in the city and the calibre of people is very high compared to outside.

Some people in this thread are so pathetic. Why so much anger towards people who are succesful, sure some may be big headed, but when you are earning what some of them do, then I guess you can.

One of the reasons London is such an important city is because of all the banking, but yeah, I hope they lose all their jobs:rolleyes:

Saying that though the expectation over there was that if there is a recession (some are saying they are already there) they will be out of it by the end of this year.
They already are in a recession.

They do need to burden some of the responsibility true, but wishing individuals who are just meeting targets ill?

i work in the city and dont get paid too much :(

but it does also annoy me when people say city and show the wharf.

just like when somone sais tipex and its not tipex.
