Where's my "12/04 Weekend's Football" thread? *SPOILERS*

before slagging the guy off make sure it wasnt an accident - he was obviously very upset at losing the match / title

Yes Fabregas is occasionally questionable, but I dont think he would do that on purpose somehow

occasionally?

As good as a football player he is, hes a ****.

Good to see the 100mil Ronaldo was no-where to be seen in a big game again!

The same Ronaldo who slotted 2 perfect penalties past Lehman, the same player who laid a sitter on a plate for Rooney (after skinning a player out wide), the same player who consistently skinned Arsenal down the left and got the ball into the corner?

Ronaldo had a very good game and was deployed as an out and out winger to help cover, which he did.

I'll edit here:

As for Ronaldo disappearing in the big games, I would never have said that's true. He's always turned up in the games when needed, be it Roma (where he's scored 3/4 goals against them), AC Milan (where people seem to forget, he scored), Liverpool, Arsenal (4/5 goals now), Fulham last season where he drove from our half, Everton, Sporting Lisbon. He's turned up when we've asked him to. I don't understand peoples comments. Yes he has better defenders on him (though he still made Toure look poor) and gets doubled up on, but he still does moments of magic which turn games.

Let us not forget the pressure of those penalties. Nistelrooy was the best Penalty taker in the league when he bottled the penalty against Arsenal and he was always cool in front of goal. Ronaldo stepped up and stuck 2 perfect penalties in.

People criticized him for running with the ball, but in actual fact he had to. First half Hargreaves and Scholes (especially) couldn't pass their way out of a paper bag, and kept giving possession away, Ronaldo ran with it allowing Rooney/Scholes/Park to get forward. In the second half when we had Anderson and Tevez on Ronaldo found it a lot easier and knocked the ball around. Ronaldo doesn't get as much credit as he should for his passing which is superb.

Yeah that's the one, think he was in the back pocket of Arsenals defence most of the game :p
Yes he scored a penalty against Lehman :o Apart from that I don't think he really did much for his standards, oh and howcome he stuck to the left pretty much the whole game after the first 10-15mins on the right?? It's because of Clichy!
Best player in the world = Ronaldo, easily!! Guy is imense!
100mil rating - no chance!
(of course as an extreme bias Man Utd fan, you will disagree :p)

As for Fabregas dropping the shirt, we've always known him as a player who has lacked class, but he's clearly upset and yesterday was the final straw for Arsenals title bid.

Does anyone else get the impression Fabregas is getting fed up at Arsenal? It can't be easy, their Cup and league aspirations all ended in a week last season and their league and European Cup aspirations in a week this season.

Maybe because he was told to? you're natural right back was out injured so its only natural that our best player would be told to concentrate on that side!

It's because Park is useless on the left, not because of who Ronaldo was up against on the right. If anything Ronaldo would have gotten more change out of Clichy attacking that side when Clichy went forwards.

Had Nani been fit we'd have seen Ronaldo up against Clichy.

I thought he had a good game myself.

He just didnt play upfront so he wasnt in every attack at goal, but he was skinning the left/right backs, kept rotating with Park, then when Park went off, he stayed on one side.

Do you think a full strength Man Utd team would be Ronaldo on the right and Nani on the left?? I barely have seen them to play together for some reason? They would offer some serious damage.
What is Park's natural position?

Nani and Ronaldo started to play together just before Nani's injury in the Liverpool game. Nani has been adjusting to the Premier League still, but from next season I'd expect to see it, especially as they can swap positions consistently throughout games.

Parks natural position is as a central midfielder/attacking midfielder, that's his role in the South Korean team. He can be deployed as a Supporting Striker (with his movement) or as a Right-Winger too.
He's a very handy utility front player.

Aye, Nani has been injured, and Nani/Ronaldo both on form switching wings will be scary to watch.

@ Nokkon - would you choose Eagles or Park for the right, when Nani is injured? OR anyone else?

Getting sick of Park:/.

Park by a long, long way. Park has the best off the ball movement in the squad for me and his passing is often excellent (though last night he was rubbish). He was very solid in the first leg against Roma.

When Park is fit he's a cracking player and has a lot, lot more to his game than Eagles (who I can't see playing for the first team again after a poor season this year).

.

Edited for truth (admittedly it wasnt all game but huge portions)

edit - Park did have a quiet game - but after his two assists for Rooney recently which were both inch perfect, I was wanting him to start and he deserved it. Eagles has disappeared from the reckoning for 1st team games I think, unlikely to re-appear, he looked promisiing a while ago but never really grew into the 1st team imo

Glad Fergie has said he needs to raid the checkbook again in the summer - we have some decent players hoping to break through next season, but I still reckon we need a two full backs and a striker. Evra did well offensively, but was shaky at the back on several occasions (and gave away a few dangerous free-kicks), and Brown..... well less said the better

Maybe Im being a little harsh on the defence, maybe it was just an off day - really hope reports that Vidic will be back for the Blackburn game are correct

Man Utd need to do some trimming of the midfield in the summer I reckon. It's awesome to have a deep squad, but when a team is not playing together consistantly it may have an affect? Hargreaves, Carrick, Scholes, Park, Anderson, O'Shea, Giggs, Nani, Ronaldo, and only 1 decent striker (who is not even an out and out striker)

scholes and giggs will play less next season as age catches up with them... we've hardly been badly effected though this season so far have we?

is our decent striker Rooney or Tevez?

Not to mention that OShea is a full utility player and more often than not plays in defence

We do need another young but tested striker (even in another league) imo - Tevez has done very well indeed (and he didnt get a real pre-season with us due to the prolonged purchase and the international matches he was playing)

We cant expect Ronaldo's goal tally every year (it would be great if we could)

The great thing about last season (if my memory serves me correct) was that the midfield scored a lot of goals (not incl Ronny) - which really hasnt happened this year. Aprt from the odd goal here and there all our 100 goals have come from three players , quick tally 70% - personally I think this shows we need A N Other goal getter

Anderson will score soon, but being so young it would be wrong to put too much pressure when he is otherwise playing so well

I think Nani can easily get 10 goals next season at least.

To be fair to Ronaldo that will compensate for what CR shouldnt be expected to score in the 08/09 season (that he has this year)

fair enough?

Surely we need someone getting 20+ goals (to replace Mr Glass?)

Has anyone else looked at Sky Sports Player Ratings for the Man Utd game yesterday? Bizarre:

Scholes - 7 - Always Involved
Anderson - 6 - Little Impact

Did they watch the game!?

I'd say Scholes - 1 and Anderson - 8 would be fairer assessments.
