Hi there

Nice one, didn't realise it was weekend only otherwise I'd have ordered one instead of procrastinating as to wether I actually needed one or not :)

Arrived but I have a problem with the power :( Hoping to get it up and running soon, it is rather large and heavy.

Got company of heroes free too :D

A lot of happy people I see ;). Also great from OCUK for putting them up at a reduced price after the weekends crazy pricing :).

DavidS14 if you think the X1900 was loud then you should hear the ATI 2900 cards when using 100% fan . I had the X1900XT and I've still got the 2900Pro and damn that thing is loud at full fan speed. Thank god they fixed that with the HD3850/70's.

Hope you get it sorted Stopsign104 :).

Looks like everyone is very happy with these cards especially for the price :)

I'm very tempted by one of these but i'm concerned that my current system may not be suitable - i think in a previous post someone mentioned problems with an underpowered cpu!

Here is my spec:

- DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D
- AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego
- Corsair 2GB DDR XMS4000PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS3
- Leadtek GeForce 7800GT 256MB
- Hiper Type R 580W
- 19” CRT Monitor
- Li Lian PC-V1000B PLUS II

Would my system be able to take one of these cards?
I also don't mind changing the power supply (Corsair HX 620W) as the Hiper has known issues ;).

Thanks

Your system would be able to take it fine mate, the mobo just needs a PCI-E slot (possibly 16x required, dunno).

Even though you're still single-core and DDR1, you still have a decent CPU and 2gb of ram, you won't be cpu-limited unless playing low res and low details.

I used a GTX with a X2 3800 @ 2.8Ghz, DFI Lan Party Ultra-D, 1gb of DDR400 @ 466. At lower resolution it is CPU bound. 3dmark06 shows that at 1280x1024 although every title will behave differently. I'd get the GTX if you are planning to upgrade your screen size in the foreseeable future as the GTX is a bit wasted at 1280x1024 when a 8800GTS would do you fine as would a 8800GT.

If you are not going to upgrade your screen and remain at 1280x1024 then go for the 8800GT.

If 1680x1050 on a 20"/22" screen would be an option for a new screen then I'd go for the 512mb GTS.

1920x1200+ on a 24"+ screen then it's the 8800GTX.

Shame i brought the OCUk one last week for 220 quid and got sent this one instead with slower clocks mines 575mhz 7 days on ive lost £70 quid on a card yet again and its less than 7 days old..

Nice to see OCUK drop all these prices after i asked last week if there would be one, i was told not for a few months,, shame they couldnt let valued customers no prior, id been holding on months for a GTX since november actualy when i got my 8800GT all i could afford at the time, And now they go and do this:(

I expect to loose money on stuff but 7 days on my cards worthless this just takes the mick at my expense.

Send it back under distance selling rules and re-order.

Simple.

Thanks for the reassuring replies Paracelsus & J.D, its good to get confirmation.

Would you bother taking the opportunity to replace the power supply - although i bought mine when they came highly recommended and have had it long enough without any problems.

Forgot to add that i will eventually be upgrading to a 24" screen when a decent all-rounder becomes available!!!

The HX620W you mentioned would be an excellent buy, I'm using a HX520 and it's almost silent, neat and 5 year warranty too.

But if your 580W Hiper is still working, I don't see why you'd get another. 580W would be good enough for an SLI setup.

Thanks for your reply Paracelsus, i guess there isn't anything stopping me from getting one now :).

My younger bro got the BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 512MB when it was on offer - i guess i might have to out-do him this time :p

I, like one of the early posters in this thread, have a BFG OC2 768mb. How easily would it SLi with the XFX one? Very interested in this offer but don't really want to have to shell out for 2 new cards to get SLi.

AFAIK both cards will run at the speed of whichever card is in the primary PCIe slot. So if you put the XFX in the primary slot the BFG will down clock to match the XFX speed and visa versa.

But you could try running your XFX at the same clock speeds as the BFG and if it runs stable then flash the bios.
