best overclocker out of these two?

E8200 and E8400. is it really worth the price difference for the E8400 or will the E8200 be pretty much the same overall? :confused:

It all depends what your max target is and which motherboard and memory you are using.

Say your max FSB speed was 500Mhz

The E8200 has a Multiplier of 8 so 8 x 500 = 4Ghz

The E8400 has a multiplier of 9 so 9 x 500 = 4.5Ghz

The E8500 has a multiplier of 9.5 so 9.5 x 500 = 4.75Ghz

I don't think the E8400 is worth the extra £ than the E8200.

ah i see, the m/b will be gigabyte either ds3l or ds3r, and the memory will be 2gb pc-8500 probably the geil black dragon ones. will the gigabyte boards go up to 500fsb?

The E8400 was worth it when first released as it only cost £144.

I'm not sure about your motherboard choices as i've never used one, search for a review on google.

I would have to disagree with that, the 8500 probably isnt worth the extra, but i spose it depends what you do with it...

For overall clocks the higher multi the better IMO

The board will, but IME of the 4 wolfdales i've had none of them are stable on air or water above about 470fsb and will generally hit an FSB wall at around 500.

Apart from my new DFI motherboard that has so far let me get the FSB upto 530mhz and I reakon there is more there still.

right ive decided, e8400 it is then, any good board suggestions up to £80 ish would be really appreciated. i'll be using a tuniq tower as well

. still cheaper though.
