well i used to love these games.there must be some for pc , like thunder force series or Raiden trad . anyone know of any about or where can find something like to play.Think there would be loads who would like to play something like a modern r type but with mega graphics and super bosses.

play the second half of Crysis - bosses, sci-fi shooter with stunning graphics/physics. Personnally it was my least favorite part of the game.

Alternatively, you could try lost planet (sci-fi but not space, snow planet like Hoth), not FPS but 3rd PV. A bit light on physics, but it is DX10 friendly. (will use a lot of ressources).

Otherwise sit tight and wait for next Alien game coming out, probably end of year.

Did you even bother to read the OP? He asked about Space Shooters in the same vein as Raiden and R-Type and you advised two First Person Shooters.

yes, but these old school shooters are hardly cutting edge in terms of physics and graphics. I could have mentioned Zaxxon, Galaxian and Space Invaders too. These kinda of games aren't popular enough too warant next gen development. Unless you believe XBLA is?

Might as well get MAME and play all the old games.

But the games you mentioned arent even of the same genre, gfx etc apart they're not really what the OP wants.

Get MAME32 for plently of old school arcade shooters or Gens32 a Megadrive/Genesis emulator. Then have a google for the relevant rom files and away you go ;)

Oops, sorry misread your request.....there was some pc specific shoot-em-ups with amazing graphics, maybe not amazing gameplay though (one of the pc mags used to run an article about it) i still prefer the old school shooters console/arcade versions.

I think the Dreamcast still has shoot-em-up's released for it, although i haven't been following it for a while.

Both of them are free-roaming, as opposed to R-type-style "go in one direction", but allow me to recommend:

Echoes

Just seen someone else in the thread recommend this, so this is a seconding I guess. It's kind of Geometry Wars meets Asteroids, and so is aceness squared.

Fraxy

Which, while still being free-roaming, meets your desire for big boss battles, because it's nothing but that. It's got a brilliantly simple enemy creator, and you can download tons of user-made bosses from the web to fight against. It's a great challenge trying to take some of the truly tough ones down, and great fun too.
