Just a simple question really,

Is it possible to use a contract 3 sim card in the Iphone. If it is unlocked?

I know the Iphone doesn't have 3G support, but could it work if the phone was configured to roam on Orange? As I believe that the 3 network uses the Orange 2G network when 3G is not available?

Not a definitive answer, but I think I've seen replies before saying that it will work (and roam on a 2G network) but that 3 can tell that you're only ever using the roaming service. Because they get charged for whenever you roam this might be against the terms of your contract.

Hmm, Ok

I'm in a bit of a pickle really. I drive 30 miles to work and the amount of calls that drop half way through a conversation is unbelievable. I currently have the N95 8Gb on Three and I don't think I can set it just to "2G". I guess my only option is to call three, explain the situation and see what they say.

You can set quite a few nokias on 3 to only use 2g services so I don't think they'd cause a fuss about it.

With the Iphone pricedrop tomorrow I'm almost tempted too.

Can you do that on a Nokia N95 8Gb? Maybe If i debrand it?

Yeah, you have to de-brand the phone to be able to use 2G-only mode.

It's a 10 minute process. Again, I did it just to get rid of 3's bloatware.

its o2 they roam on to and they are anal about roaming charges so be warned as there charges are prohibitive

They moved from O2 to Orange a while back, but the rest is probably still true!

And as from this year they are moving from Orange to T Mobile - October I beleive it comes in.

They will get into bed with anybody!

Next year it will be vodafone!

You might find they check if you are using exclusively GPRS so be careful. I wouldn't risk it.

How can they prove that you don;t have a dodgy phone or just bad reception.

I live in a rural area and in the 45 miles from my house to work I roam for 40 miles of them.

All the local villages and areas I tend to use my phone I am on orange.

They wouldn;t even notice the difference with me if I switched off 3g (which I can't on my current phone)

This is only a network sharing agreement with the T-Mobile 3G network. The 2G network will remain with Orange for a bit of time yet...

Cheers for all the replies. I am unsure what Firmware I am on. On the N95 under Network I have two options:

UMTS Or Dual Mode. If I want to set it to 2G only Do i need to do it in that part of the phone settings or somewhere else?

I'll try and find out what firmware I have and report back.

Edit:

Firmware version 11.0.0.26

Just get them to upgrade your firmware to the next version - say your having the usual problems (google them)

Greebo,

When you say get them to upgrade your firmware, I already have the latest according to the Nokia Software Updater. I'll give them a call and state I am getting dropped calls.

Sorry my mistake. Three hasn't released anything above 11 yet even though v20 of the firmware is out

So either you will have to wait or........try this:

Seems to work for everybody who has tried it.

Cheers i'll have a look at the link. I think V20 is out for the original N95.

The Net Monitor software has been removed now. :(
