What bands are 'cool' these days?

i.e. which bands are thought of as trendy in the mainstream?

I was having this discussion with someone last night and realised that though I know everything that's happening in my area of musical interet, I have no idea about stuff in the charts.

So what are people listening to these days and is it any good [unlikely I know]?
 
I'm not particularly clued up on current music (I just listen to whatever I like regardless of the age of it) but there seems to be a lot of exposure for bands like My Chemical Romance, Bullet For My Valentine, Foals and the like so quite a lot of emo type stuff(and before anyone starts not the original 80s emo). In answer to your second question nope, it is mostly rubbish as far as my tastes go.

However September (singer from Sweden) has had a song or two out recently and seems pretty good for Europop, same for Infernal.
 
I am very fond of Mozart and Bach. I really think its best to follow what you enjoy, rather than what the latest fashion in music is, which tbh, is mainly rubbish IMO.
 
I'll listen to pretty much anything, aside from chart music. Classical is definitely my favourite, but then I also love heavy metal.

Classical
Progressive/melodic/death/alternative/post-metal
Progressive/post-rock
Intelligent dance music
Electronic
Psychedelic ambient
Ambient electronic
Hip-hop (real hip-hop, e.g. Jurassic 5 – not rubbish like 50 Cent)

And loads of other stuff.

Music I DON'T like would be generic indy, dance, trance, and other such unimaginative and boring stuff that you find in the charts these days.

In answer to the OP's question, I guess chart music would be indy and pop dance I guess (I don't listen to it that much) – the kind of stuff they play at clubs. But no, it's not good in my opinion; very unimaginative and dull music :)

it seems to be cool at the moment to listen to bands nobody has heard of, who all sound the same, wear skinny jeans, play basic chords and have their names start with "The"
 
prodigy & NWA are the coolest bands ever imo

just find your own music and sod everyone else, everyone has hugely differing tastes

I think you missed the point. To make it very clear, I'm just interested in what the new fad bands are, I'm not looking to listen to them myself.

not in the charts but trendy as hell all of a sudden. despite been around for over 2 years

ive seen there tees that cost 3 quid to make sell on ebay for 70quid
and some tacky justice belt buckles sell for 200 quid
there H&M tee sell for 30 quid when it was 15 or summit in the shops and is HORRIBLE
there own line of 1000 quid leather jackets

they do actually make good music though
