Is the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro quieter than the stock E8400 Cooler?

When I pull out the stock coolers power I dont notice much difference when on or off over my other components.

Arctic cooling website:
Freezer 7: 0.9 Sone
Pentium 4 Box Cooler: 4.9 Sone

Not sure what the difference is like between the cooler you get with a P4 and an E8400 though.

then you all have extrememly loud pcs.

the arctic is the noisiest of all my pc components. I have to put the fans on 60% so it has the same noise as my Antec900 fans. If you have a silent case without all extra fans, the the arctic must be even louder.

i also have arctic pro 7. i run mine at 50% speed and you cant hear it all in my quiet sytem. if i crank it up to about 70% i can start to hear a fan noise just. and 100% i can hear it. these re obsertvations when t dektop. during a game i cant hear it no matter what as i loudest hing is x1950pro with stock cooler when it spins up

default speed is maximum which is 2500rpm i.e. its quite loud.
i chose 'optimal' which runs at 900rpm and its very quiet. q9450 runs at 3ghz at 25C which isnt bad.

I installed a Scythe Mine (push-pins) today - and cools better than the Freezer 7 Pro and is a lot quieter

but was MUCH harder to install than the Freezer

All the ACF7 pros I've ever used have been pretty close to silent up until about 50% fan speed - above that the noise ramps up quite a bit - at 100% fan speed they are quite loud - but they do cool fairly well and if you lap them (assuming the CPU IHS is fairly flat) they work really really well...

the one i have is nice n quiet
admittedly i was coming from a sort of stock 939 cooler (old pc...)
the only thing i can realistically hear is my hdd
it is a lot better than the stock E8 series cooler though, thats tiny and abit pants

Sound levels are so subjective, I can only assume all the posts I read about how quiet the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro were written by people who were Manowar fans in their youth! :D

Mine was silent, had it set to temperature control, so was only running half speed when doing nothing, and picked up when i started gaming, but even then it was still silent, as it never picked up that much, they are pretty loud full speed though, but your CPU never gets hot enough to run it full pelt, well mine never did anyway.

Thanks for all your response, got the Noctua in the end. Decided to push the boat out a little bit more and get that as well as the Zalman Fanmate 2. Really made my PC quiet now, and as well as trying to tidy my cables more, should be getting good airflow and cooling.
