Just had the S3 remapped..wow!

To the OP: did they do an on load fuelling and boost check, or just bang in a new map and walk away? It'll prob be fine, but its def worth getting it checked!

After applying the map we took it for a test drive which involved finding a nice straight bit of road, 3rd gear, 30mph and booting it. He sat in the passenger seat monitoring fuelling and boost pressure via VAG-COM.

you paid 320 for a generic map? Wow, they must have been laughing all the way to the bank!

Not really

2 of the most respected VAG remappers - Jabba and Revo

both charge £400 + for a generic map

£500 + for a personal one.

so £320 for a generic map was quite a bargain really.

well the one in the 300 cost just 50

a remap for £50 ??

iirc dont the remaps in fact actually have to put 3rd party software into your ECU before they can reprogramme it, and this alone costs at least double that cost ?

and 300 what btw, ive not seen any VAG tuners charging £50.

a lot of these mobile mapping companies are just re-selling other peoples maps and pay the guy who wrote it £50-£60

Yeah it's called franchising and is quite normal.

The Custom Code map is all their own work though. Apparently some of the CC team used to work for Revo but then branched out to form CC. They asked Revo if they could modify their map and resell it under their name but Revo refused, so CC built their own from scratch.

Very expensive. Jabbasport is cheaper, and equally as good, if not better.

The Jabbasport remap is £375 which is £60 more expensive to start with. Then take into account that I live 160 miles from the nearest Jabbasport agent and I would have to take a day off work to get the work done so total cost works out at over £500, and that's without the DV or filter!

Please tell me how the CC map is very expensive in comparison?

jabbasport are £375 for a generic remap, custom code are cheaper.

cheapest way to get a remap is arrange a group buy, I arranged one up here in scotland and got the price down to a flat rate of £200 for each car, the company I used averages around £350 per car usually :D

the uprated DV is a very good idea as mentioned the bosch ones are prone to failing under higher boost as they are just a plastic diaphragm rather than an aluminium piston.

Very nice :D , was just reading your post on audi sport, well I'm presuming its you ? themanthatcan?

Well worth it then!

well the one in the 300 cost just 50 and that is the going rate. Maybe things got massively more complex, but it sounds to me like the profit margin is what has been inflated hugely.

You bought one of those ebay resistors didn't you?:p

Bloody hell, Jabbasport have increased their prices since I had mine done:eek:
I apologise and take my comment back then!

a lot of people have had problems with the Jabba remaps on the 1.8T engine over on Briskoda... even though they are highly regarded.

I've just had my car live mapped by one of the top guys in his field. Cost £500 + VAT for map alone, but like a lot of things you get what you pay for. Pick it up tomorrow, and can't wait.

What sort of power will you be up to now then? :D

no, chip was from a very knowledgable guy on the owners club called John Dixon, he does chips with a variety of different mappings. Have a look you can buy one too ;)

Yep that's me mate.

It's not been a smooth start to my S3 ownership but it's mainly just niggly little things that need doing like the temp sender I'm changing at the weekend as the temp guage is reading 80 degrees as opposed to the 90 it should. Things are coming together nicely though. It comes with the territory of owning a 108k mile car I suppose!

Are you guys retarded? When the hell did £320 become expensive for a remap.

The good places will charge £400-500... and for a turbo car it's more than worth it.

I would have been happy as larry if I got a guy to turn up on my doorstep, bolt some mods on, remap my car and drive away for £438!

My first bespoke remap was done by Pat Herborn on rollers and cost me £700... My second remap was done by Bob Rawle and involved half a ton of guages/sensors/pipes being stuck to my car and me hooning it around Swindon for a couple of hours lol. That was £350 and was discounted as it is normally more expensive picking up another mappers work. My last map by Bob was more of a tweak due to me swapping my injectors out with a different spray pattern and that was £175.

3 remaps since last July, the OP got 1 hell of a bargain imo! ;)

Remap sounds good but I'm curious how you can drive a Yaris diesel for 5 years but get bored of 225bhp in an S3 after just 4 weeks?
