Quietest case?

you be better off looking at a few cases you like then asking how you can mod them to make them quiet.

this may include

suspending hdds with elastic bands

changing the case fans

other non case changes may include

hdd changes if they are very noisy

gpu cooler change

psu change if it too loud for your liking.

At the mo i'm using a Coolermaster Praetorian which sounds like a hairdryer next to me (matbe its the stock fans) so for my next build I just want a nice quiet case - there must be one out there I can buy. I was looking at the COSMOS range but i've read about cooling problem in these. The only one that people seem to be happy with in the Antec 900 gaming case although is a bit of a dust magnet.

any more ideas? Is water cooling the way to go?

Cheers

I bought an antec solo for my old PC. Comes with a 120mm fan which has 3 fan settings (lowest is silent I think), I also bought 2x 92mm antec fans for the front intake, which also has a 3 speed switch on them and I cant hear them either. The only thing I can hear is the AGP 7900GS fan :(

Watercooling will cost £100-£200 so unless you're ready to throw money at it you're best buying a decent case and a few silent fans and maybe some of those noise reducing foam case mats. Take a look at RoachcaL's case in the New Cases Gallery to see how he has used it.

Just hijacking a tad here.

How is the P182 noise wise. I seem to remember the P180 being one of the quieter cases (with stock fans).

Cheers

Zalman GT1000. I have had a few cases including Lian Li V2000, PC 25B, Silverstone TJ05 (worse case I have had by a country mile) TJ09 (rattling panels) and some of the old Coolermasters. The Zalman GT1000 is a country mile better when it comes to build quality and silence.

The GT1000 uses two front 92mm fans does it not?

Plus, while I'm not doubting the build quality, it's a pretty standard case, with standard storage space, no capacity to hold an over-sized PSU, not much HDD capability, etc.

The OP asked about quietest case and not what you can fit in it. I have 6 hard drives in mine using one adaptor and why do you need an over sized psu. I have a corsair psu, passive graphics and a scythe ninja with Noctua fan cooling the cpu and its quieter than my laptop. The thickness of every aluminium panel is what makes this case different than any other case. My Lian Li PC-25 is quiet but the GT1000 is nigh on silent.

coolmaster 832 has 12x 120mm fans holes to its very quiet even with all my hdss acessing and dvdrw and fan on 100% constant

Good thread :)

Typicaly I would have assumed a very thick steel and heavy case would have been silent but there doesnt seem to be any!
And simply using a silent cooler, and passive heatsinks like the thermalright HRs on the graphics card making it a passive cooler and Japanese Gup silent boxes in the hdds would have been the best bet.

I think my next project will be to use Japanese Gup silent hdd boxes, and that Scythe Giant Passive heatsink and a passive heatsinks from thermalright on the graphics card... and accoustic mat/foam for noise dampening and just good air cooling combo.

But having said that the coolermaster cosmos and a the Antec Solos seem top pickings lately... although im falling for that new Lian li PC-S80 now :)

Well, we just have to agree to disagree then. The Zalman is too expensive for what it is and the Lian Li I suggested is quieter. Noise-dampening front-door, a back-'hood' to quieten the rear 120mm fan, HDD's can be passively cooled. It's unbeatable for the price. Plus the Lian Li has thickened aluminum too.

My lian-li PC25 is double skiined with a noise dampening door the same as the S80. An excellent case that I am happy with but similar components are quieter in the GT1000. I am quite anal about noise and did not mind paying the premium for the Zalman.
