Hello all,

My car as it currently is..

and here's a better picture of the back before the wheels went on it

Now I'm hoping to get some paintwork done before the MM (dependant on how busy the independant guy I use is).

Now I'm definately going to get the following bits done...

Front bumper - complete respray
Bonnet - 4 large scratches and a keying need sorting, possible complete respray.
Rear passenger door - has a weird patch on it (you can just see it in the above picture) - no idea how it got there, it won't polish out, wash out, nothing. So it's being painted over.
Front and rear skirts to match the side skirts which were painted last time it was there.

Now I'm wondering if I should get any other bits done whilst I'm at it, currently considering:

The spoiler - I think it looks good as it is (black) but mainly because of the black plastic bumper strips around the rest of the car.
The plastic strips going all around it.
Door handles? I have NO idea how easy these will be to colour code...

So, what do you fellow OcUk'ers think? :)

all (sensible :p) opinions welcome :).

I wonder where this will go.

Another classic Phate thread ;)

Define classic Phate thread?

The only way I can see this flying off the rails is people going "I thought you said you were bored of your car" which is true, I am bored of it, but I was going to get this paintwork done regardless whether I was selling it or not.

So people, what do we think? :)

I wouldn't bother at all apart from doing the touch up jobs where needed really. And even them depending on cost.

I think that’s a textbook case of how much a difference wheels can make ( still see the Maestro :/), I'm going to second the getting it touched up, there is no point spending money on it. It's like my old neighbour who rented from the council, did 20 thousand pounds of DIY and then bought it from the council, putting his mortgage up. It makes no sense.

unless this is your mate doing it and therefore mates rates, just leave it. the investment you will not get back.

isnt this the car that was going to be a stop gap to that impreza you wanted ?

and hasnt it already been in the painshop already, to get that dodgy grey resprayed ?

why are you lavishing so much money (like the alloys) on what was supposed to be your stop gap car ?

Sounds like it needs a complete blowover, because otherwise you're going to end up with a lot of different patches and shades, potentially.

The guy I use is mustard, absolutely perfect every single time me or my family has used him, so this won't be an issue.

Are you getting a good price or something mate, because that seems like a lot of paint work to be done..

It's not that much work...and yeah it'll be at "mates rates"

Seems like a lot of work and potential cost for the value / age of the car. I assume you are keeping the beastie now then

Your money though.

Well I can't find a car I want for my budget...a car I would seriously have is a new shape A3 1.8T - But it's about 2k out of my budget :( So keeping it for now...

but it would only be about £1000 out of your budget if you stopped spending on this one. Its already been through the paintshop once, and you want to put it through again.

Then with mods on top as well, you could have been so much closer to that A3 if you stopped spending money on the saab.

As far as i was aware, no matter how "good" a painter is, patchwork paint still looks patchwork, doing bits here and there can't be a good idea.

On the notion of spraying i *really* need to get my ass in gear though and have the whole front of my car resprayed, it still looks ridiculous.

the patch on the door is probably a "smart repair" I think a good body shop could get rid of it without having to respray.

and my opinion would be to not spray a great deal of it, you wont see your money back

Given the 1.8T is a recent addition to the new shape A3 range, you can buy a 2.0T for many thousands less, which is inside your budget.

Why would you want the new 1.8T anyway? It's a new bottom of the range model/

How are we supposed to be able to help you decide, when you have given us pictures that are only any use to the Stevie Wonders of the world?

Give us some proper, detailed daylight pictures.
