Watch this Safety Camera footage..

I don't see any accidents in that video caused by speeding. I see accidents caused by cameras, and several examples of really bad driving...

Guess that wasn't what we were supposed to see though...

Agree with the above... it's lucky that people weren't seriously hurt or even killed by those cars spinning out. I presume this is because there is no warning such as "speed cameras ahead" acting as a deterrent, hence people seeing the van last second and slamming on the anchors...

Speeding didn't cause any accidents on that footage.

Guess what - if they hadn't been speeding they wouldn't have slammed on their brakes.

If the camera hadn't been there, no braking would have been required because the speeds were otherwise perfectly safe.

That doesnt make speeding the cause. If they hadn't been going to work they wouldnt have slammed on their brakes either, using your warped logic that means 'going to work' also caused those accidents.

Money money money money money money money... safety doesn't come into it IMO..

Speeding in the wrong conditions causes deaths.. urghhhh

but its a can of worms so I'm saying no more.

The driver of the cars combined with the speed camera van caused the accidents..

So you have never followed somebody obeying the speed limit and yet they still stamp on the breaks when they suddenly see I camera? I know I have.

Yeah, what is it with people slamming on the brakes to 15mph below the limit when they see scameras :(

WAIT. Hang on here. Am I the only one confused here.

The camera didnt cause the accidents - the speed didnt cause the accidents. The only thing that caused those spins was the drivers' decisions to heavily brake.

I'd hate to be sat behind that camera while some panicked driver shunts the back of it.

Agreed. Sometimes when I drive and see a speed camera I instinctively brake (out of fear for getting points!) DESPITE actually being UNDER the speed limit before hitting on my brakes!

Instinctive, but EXTREMELY dangerous I admit.

They braked heavily because they realised a speed camera was tracking them, since they were over the speed limit.

But regardless of speed limit or not.

I think the question that should be asked is:

Would those accidents have happened If the speed camera wasnt there in the first place. Chances are they wouldn't have.

What if those drivers hammered their brakes for another reason? Crash ahead? Distracted by passengers? Animal on the road? They'd still have spun out because they can't control their cars at that speed. Being in control of your car not only means being able to be such a man that you can just put your foot on the floor and move the steering wheel, but also to be able to stop safely and suddenly and react with the road. They didn't. They weren't driving safely because they were going too fast.
