Hi all,

After some advice on this Mondeo. I've got my 3,000 pounds worth of Business Start Up money from the princes trust now and have just found this car, which at the price would be saving me some money to spend on a few other things for the business etc.

Anyway, is this a decent mondeo for the price? Just rang up and asked the mileage which is 120,000.

Looks good to me if all that he says is correct & there is no reason to doubt it isn't. I'd ring him & ask how much cash would buy it today, Hopefully he'll say 2k then you can drive over & cheeky bid him 1800 & hope to get it for 19, Worse ways for 2k that is a Lot of motor.

thats a lot of miles, but plenty of life left in it (assuming good servicing etc)

2k would seem a good price. GHIA option is always better, especially when it comes to selling.

These cars aren't the same as old diesels that would go to the moon and back, injectors do fail regularily on the 2.0 tdci and cost £500 to fix, so if you're gonna do a lot of business miles bear this in mind. Also look for rust on bottom of doors as this is a common early MK3 failing.

If you buy it trade from him then you could save a bit, but I would pop along to an auction with a friendly mechanic, you will get the same thing a bit cheaper there, maybe as much as 600 quid cheaper.

How would I be able to tell if the injector was abouts to fail and how often?

The original link is for a TDCI.....budget £1k for new diesel pump and a injector refurb/replacement. Check for smoke for smoke under hard acceleration, rough running and misfires / erratic power delivery. Other than that, it seems like a good price. At least if you do the pump / injectors yourself, you'll know that its been done.

No it's not the dealer what have put TDCI in the ad but its not a TDCI as the TDCI engine wasn't brought out until 52 plate IIRC the car in the OP is a 2001 Y plate so cannot be a tdci unless some ones done an engine swap :)

Thanks for the replies, I went to see this car and just checked out the exterior. Didn't check to see if it actually was a TDCI. It looked in relatively good condition though. However, I've just found this one 8 miles away. Same sort of mileage but lower on the insurance and in a nice machine silver colour which I prefer to the black.

What do you think to that?

What is your business? Why are you entitled to £3000 from the Princes Trust?

I will be gutted if it is not because your job involves a car.

PC Repairs...

950 government given business start up grant and 2,000 3 percent fixed interest loan. The car is for my PC Repairs Business, I need a reliable car that I can also advertise my services on.
