SPL Season 2007/2008 Thread **Spoilers**

St Johnstone 1 Rangers 1 AET
Rangers win 4-3 on Penalties

TBH we were very lucky, St Johnstone were the far better team on the day but at least we are in the Final the hard way.

What a duff performance from Rangers. Our injury and suspension worries just keep mounting:

Over the next few games it looks like we're going to be without:

Cuellar, Ferguson, Thomson, McGregor, Cuellar, Weir (I think?), Burke, and Naismith at various points. We now seem to have used the whole squad apart from Gow up to this point so they're all going to be running on empty. It's gonna be interesting to say the least....

Yeah it was well below par but if you look at the players who were injured early on and who were suspended etc, it isn`t hard to see where the problem lies.

Our next 4 games are going to be very interesting. :)

No comment on the decision then?.

sweep sweep etc. ;)

Just like the socalled freekick at St Midden they got awarded. Will make it all the more satisfying when we win the league that even when they cheated and got the help from their 12th man in black they were still found wanting.

As far as I can tell referees in Scotland are poor and make bad decisions for and against every team, to say they favour one team or to suggest there is a bias is paranoia, nothing less.

I'm just pointing out the dodgy decisions they have got even though every ref in the land is against them.

Well that's the way it goes in Scotland, Celtic reckon the refs fancy Rangers, Rangers think they fancy Celtic and everyone else thinks they fancy both!

SPL prepares to extend the season

The Scottish Premier League has decided to extend its season until 22 May if Rangers reach the Uefa Cup final.

It has taken the unprecedented step of publishing two sets of fixtures for the final set of games.

SPL secretary Iain Blair said: "It is well documented that this has been an exceptionally challenging season in terms of fixturing.

"The combination of a number of diverse circumstances has produced unparalleled scheduling problems."

Looks like Rangers aren't happy at the extension - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_prem/7361606.stm - they won't be happy until they get a break of one week between every game. Celtic played several key fixtures in the league just days after returming from various European exploits when we reached the final so get over it and get on with it.

I also find that pic extremely insulting to my club and my religion, please remove it.

Funny in 2003 Celtic got a fixture moved to give them a full week free to prepare for their Uefa Cup final. Forgot to mention that didnt you eddie funny that. As for the picture get a sense of humour.

I think you'll find that when Celtic played Boavista in the semi-finals both games where played on a Thursday and Celtic had important league games on the Saturday so no favours there. We also never requested that the league should bend over backwards to accomodate any fixture backlog.

As for the picture, it's simply an extension of the 'Scotlands Shame' nonsense being perpetrated by some Rangers fans and is insulting to all concerned.

Messing around with a camp pose by boruc...get real. Im glad it offends you, I hope it gives you nightmares about big bad orangemen out to get you. Im sure every picture that paints boruc in a negative fashion is a big massive masonic conspiracy.
Scotlands shame, theres only one team thats assaulted a ref, glorify terrorists. Oh another point about extending the season

Statistical analysis shows extending the season is no unusual occurrence.

Between season 1946-47 and season 1989-90 (the last time it was extended) the Scottish senior league programme has seen fixtures occur after the scheduled end 24 times in 44 seasons - more than half.

Since 89-90 two major factors have made the need for extension less onerous - the lack of Scottish clubs competing in the later stages of European competition and the prevalence of under-soil heating.

The statistics clearly show that historically the Scottish game has regularly extended itself to accommodate the vagaries of fixture build-up. Sportsmanship demands that players be given a reasonable amount of time between competitive games.

That being the case the motivations for those opposed to extending the season must be called into question.
46/47 - 52/53 inclusive, 55/56, 56/57, 57/58, 59/60, 62/63, 64/65 - 68/69 inclusive, 70/71, 71/72, 73/74, 75/76, 76/77, 78/79 and 89/90.

Guess who the extensions benefited the most

10 Celtic , 9 Rangers, 2 Hibs, 2 Hearts and 1 Kilmarnock.
