Popped into town after work. And on my way back I was riding on the pavement, because a) I don't feel confident riding on a busy road and b) the traffic was doing over 20mph.

Then out of no where a police guy jumps out in front of me. And talks to me. I was polite with my "Yes sir"'s etc. He then said he'd decided to give me a £30 ticket for riding on the pavement!

He said I could pay it off right away. So i rode back to the cop shop in town. Paid it off and rode a different way back home.

Really angry and need to rant    The road in question is notorious for drug dealers and they decide its more important to penalise me for something I didn't know was against the law! grr. Wish I'd got hit by a car just to prove a point now!!!

-huff-

How did you not know riding a bike on the pavement is against the law?

If I killed someone and said "I didn't know murder was illegal" I don't think they'd let me off.

I'm not meaning to be harsh but £30 is hardly a big fine, suck it up man.

Good to see them cracking down on the real issues.

Yes the use of the word cracking could be drug related. Consider it a drug pun for your pleasure.

Bycicle Invader.

You wouldn't be saying that if you where stuck behind me doing 5-10mpb for half a mile down a main road acid! (Traffic calming messures means 1, maybe 2 cars can overtake everything 100meters)

Hope they put my £30 into painting a cycle lane on the bloomin pavement!

unlucky mate.. if the police were on foot why didnt you just ride off very fast?

Crossed my mind. But I'd rather not get charged :p Besides I thought they where going to ask something about the big accident they where attending.

That's not the same is it? Would have thought it would be "more" illegal to be doing an inappropriate speed on a public highway tbh!

Don't get me wrong. Its against the law, fine whatever. But I've seen people let off for similar things. (littering etc.(which looking at the news should be being clamped down on in the near future!))

I'm not happy where ever a cyclist is, there a nuisance on the road as well as the pavement.

Where possible cycle lanes should be made available. But often roads and pavements are already narrow.

Rather that than you hitting a child on the pavement.

Both are dangerous. But I know a child is less likely to get hit by a cyclist and if they do are more likely to live then if a cyclist gets hit by a car on a main road.

Like I said don't get me wrong, Although its ticked me off. Its not the not cycling on the pavement bit that's ticks me off. Its the fine. I know plenty of people who've been stopped by the police having done something that could warrant a on the spot fine and just had a good talking too. (Using mobiles in cars, no seat belt, littering etc).

Riding on the pavement is a gateway crime, you'll be doing smack next and robbing little old ladies.

Lmao :p
