I'm an Aussie, and I don't think that the UK is "spookily the same". Our two countries are very similar, but it's not until you've lived in both of them that you realise just how incredibly different they are.

I still can't believe that you guys are taxed for watching television.

The tax is what funds the BBC, which doesnt have adverts or anything on, tbh its ridiculous that we're still paying them the money, theres so many tv channels now to choose from, they should be forced into the competitive market etc, theres nowt i watch on bbc really, match of the day if im in and odd programs like tribe and documtarys like that, the rest of whats on BBC i rate as utter turd.

Yes, I understand what the tax is for; I just don't think it's justified. What irritates me is that you have to pay the tax just for watching TV, regardless of whether or not you actually watch the BBC channels. There's something very wrong with that picture.

I rate the Beeb very highly; it's the best media service in the world, IMHO. But the TV license has got to go. It's hopelessly outdated, and totally unjustified.
