Hi

basically some of my games freeze using Vista 64 so I want to be able to dual boot into win xp.

Do I have do dual boot on the same HDD or can I use another one?

Any guides out there for doing this (yes i will look too)

Thanks
S

Hi,

There are guides out there on how to do this but when i tried i couldnt get any of them to work properly. Was advised that I should install XP first ad then install Vista.

What I done however is diconnect 1 HDD (the one with Vista on) and installed XP on a second HDD. Once that was done all I have to do is select which HDD to boot from using the bios boot selection menu.

Vista and XP will have to be installed on different partitions.

Best way to do it would be install XP first, then vista afterwards to the second partition.

If you don't want to format and reinstall from scratch, try this:

Hi thanks for help

I've got about 3 spare drives from an older PC so I'm going to put XP on a separate drive - I've had problems in the past with partitioning drives (partition magic was the culprit).

Do you have to go into your BIOS every time to dual boot or will the option of XP/Vista be given to you on boot up?

Cheers

You'll get a menu allowing you to choose which OS to boot into after post/bios. You won't have to touch bios at all.

Re game freezing

I've only just put the system together so maybe it's not tuned perfectly but the games I have issues with are:

1) Medal of honor allied assault - playing this online and card will freeze after 10 mins with sound still playing - did a quick google and other people are having issues with Vista 64 and this game

2) Rome total war - game plays ok but strategy map flickers - i'm sure I can resolve this by adjusting the games video settings

Today I got Call of Juarez, Assassins Creed (says Vista 32 only but will use in XP once set up) and MOH Allied Air Borne - so at least 3 games to test the system

Cheers

I dont have either of the first two, so I can not comment, but Call fo Juarez, Assassins Creed and MOH AB will be fine. I did have to odd crash with MOH, but that was due to GPU drivers.
