9900 GT, or GTX in july.. at least according to theinq.

Really stupid to call these new GT200's 9 series cards, when the 9 series are already 8800's, wtf are they doing, if they are new tech, then they should be under new numbering, they shouldn't be part of the 8 series, as thats going to cause more confusion, everyone will just see 9900's and think they are the same 8800's again instead of new tech, and why wouldn't they, as thats what the ******* 9 series are already, oh dear, still lets just wait for confirmation.

not to mention confusing, especially if these end up being quite a lot faster than 9800 GX2's

they did a good job screwing up the numbers thats for sure, but if its a good performer ill be happy.

no they wont, because joe public wont look in to the numbers that much. they'll just think the 9900's will be faster than the 9800's. which they will be.
 
Obvioulsy they will be faster, but it will affect sales imo, as a 9 series to me, is an 8800 on a smaller die, and surely im not the only one who knows that, so i wonder how many people will see 9900, and think "ill pass on these, wait for the next gen", not realising that these are the *******, what a big mess up if true.
 
Yeah there will have been, so even more sales lost, all those 8800 GTX owners who downgraded to the 9800 GTX thinking it was faster, they'll be saying "9900, **** that, wont be making that mistake again", and all those 8800 GTS 512mb owners who got shot of their cards for the 9800 GTX, then realised they had just bought the same card back again, but at a higher price, oh dear, can't see them being filled with joy at yet another 9 series. :D

They should be under a whole new number, they should not be under 9 series naming, not when the 9 series are already 8800's on a smaller die, its going to be mass confusion, an old tech card and a new tech card under the same naming scheme, what a ******* joke, the 9800's should have been 8900's.

Can we start speculation as to how much quicker than 8800's and 9800 gx2 cards these new 9900's will be?

we dont have any info about the specs at all yet do we?
 
Surely its straight forward enough not to confuse. 9900 is greater than 9800, or 8800..

= better card

The only one that isnt, is the 9800 and the 8800 but I dont think that was planned.

Your missing the point, the 9 series are already 8800's, the GT200 is supposed to be new tech, so they shouldn't be 9 series cards should they.:p

Yeah, but by that logic, the G92 chips should've only been 8800's or 9800's depending on which way you spin it. Their namescheme's been screwed up since the release of the 8800 GT...
 
Nvidia are good at confusing people with knowledge and easy to understand for an average joe. He walks into a shop. theres the 8800GTX, 9800GTX and the 9900GT so he pics the 9900GT. Its fastest. Then mr super PC walks in, he sees that cruddy pile of 9 series and thinks 'ha' i am more wise i know to opt for the 8800 for bang for buck'. Little does he know average joe, in a way has been more wise.
 
The of course, mr. super enthusiast walks in and buys a shelf load of 9800 GX2's which he intends to overclock to their very highest to try and beat his previous 3dmark score. :P

Let me get this right, the 9800gtx is really just a slighty clocked version of the newer tech 8800gts 512mb and the older tech 8800gts 320mb is really just a 8800gts 640mb?

If the above is correct wouldn't the newer tech 9800gtx really be old tech since it's only just a slighty clocked version of the newer tech 8800gts 512mb?

So is the old tech 8800 ultra still Nvidia's fastest card to date but still not worth buying becouse it's only a slighty clocked version of the old tech 8800gtx?

And am I right in thinking the old tech 8800 ultra + gtx are faster than the new tech 9800gtx + gts 512mb unless you game at 1280 with minimal aa applied, in which case the new (old?) tech 9800gtx + gts 512mb would be the faster cards?
