cheapest insurance i can get?

Have you Young'uns tried Adrian Flux ?
I know i am old & my car is worth less than the petrol in it but surely it's worth giving them a ring.

Insurance is totally illogical sometimes.

Today I've just renewed with with Greenlight on a Group 18 Honda Prelude, 200bhp car for £672.70 Fully comp. More Than have just sent me a renewal quote for my old car for some reason, 103bhp Rover 200 @ £535.00. Thats just strange...

I noticed insuring bigger more powerful family inspired cars often gave better results when your age, Mondeos and Volvos were always cheaper than your average 1.4L starter car, something like a Cilo or 306 for example.

By the sounds of it SB118, he's already trying to cut back to the worst possible car he can find. They dont make them much worse than a 1.1 Pug.

I know its wrong, illegal etc, but at that age and those costs, insurance fronting is the only option for some. Shame.

You must have one of those "Bosnia" postcodes, gutting.

Tried the usual tricks of adding a female relative? Loading your excess, etc...

older drivers can sometimes bring your policy down and if your asked have you use of any other vehicles saying yes to this can sometimes bring your insurance down due to you "not" using your vehicle all the time which means your a lower risk in that particlar car :)

but I don't have access to other vehicles making my insurance void, might as well front if I'm going to get illegal insurance (which I'm not) :(.

Yep, adds to my quote price. Loading excess makes no difference either. I'm screwed. Now Endsleigh are quoting me 2.1K :(.

I'm not going to be able to afford to drive for a while due to insurance costs, wondering if it's really worth me actually taking my test when I'm not going to be driving for a while :( (A few years.)

Hi mate, have you tried www.gocompare.com ?

They have been quoting me some cracking prices on some cars, i.e a 2.5 BMW E30 for £1,800, Merc 190E for £1,300, my current escort for £1,600 (:() - TPFT, no excess on the lowest quotes!

Best thing to do if you don't have the car yet is try some of the more family cars, like the Mondeo etc. as these are lower risk :)

This is when I put that I have only just got my licence,

According to the sticky your postcode is 5a, which is quite high :(, but still, give it a try :D

Every comparison site I try gives completely rubbish results. Case in point:

gocompare.jpg

Bear in mind I pay half the 'best' price it found, underwritten by one of the people on there who refused to quote .

I just tried Gocompare as well, got a mixture of £2000-£3000 quotes and a few gems like:

'Cannot quote due to driver's age.'

'Cannot quote for selected occupation: Student.'

Nice!

I'm pretty sure some companies just run from a random number generator.

We wanted to add a 2nd car to the wifes policy (so she's covered while we sell the Arosa) and DirectChoice wanted £97 for 14 days.

Contacted my insurer (AA) and they let me change my insured vehicle, and add the wife to my policy until it runs out in August for £25. Mad.

 that's a lot then OllyM, I have found them cheaper than some sites though, but as always go direct to the insurer :)

Not always crap; they consistantly quote cheaper for Minis than ensleigh, who are consistantly cheapest, do direct. I don't understand it, but if it stays that way by the time I'm insuring, I'm certainly buying through there.

Thought I would share this with you guys, I've just been quoted £1,500 from Elephant.co.uk (18/M, 1.1 Pug 06, No NCB, TPFT, V.Bad post code) which is the cheapest I've been quoted by far :D. Also includes:
- No excess
- Free courtesy car
- Windscreen cover
